Well,as far as the credibility of CAT is concerned...it is a brilliantly executed testing pattern.Have a look at the VA...isn't it beautiful...it tests our comprehension powers rather than vocabulary which is very much practical too.DI and QA are prepared to flummox a person and the CAT has succeeded in doing so...won't many of us agree?
The only area which i believe needs to be added to the CAT is GK.After all managers are very much needed to work in a team and not on an individual basis always...so sensitivity to the environment is very much needed.Hence, GK could be a testing area for CAT and thus making it almost comprehensive. It can never be comprehensive coz there would always be people to pan it...no matter wat What say??
...Cheers

completed my BE in comp sc this yr with 68%.
X : 78% [CBSE]
XII : 63% [CBSE]

got 88.44 %ile in CAT'03(feb) and 76.13%ile ( yeah
u read that right ! ) in CAT'04

but i still maintain that CAT is not bakwaas but perhaps
the ONLY exam that truly tests ur aptitude.
my frnds here who were the 1st n 2nd topper
of our univ got 0.91%ile and 23 %ile respectively.........!!!
that goes to show that something is terribly wrong with
the way our univ. system ( edu. system rather ) works
and not the way CAT works! n one of my best frnds
who is currently working with Cognizant ( 85+%
in X n XII - CBSE n 81% in BE ) got 33%ile in CAT
while he had been preparing for the last 2 years !
N dun tell me that this time they got such %iles cuz the pattern
changed cuz the same ppl got single digit %iles last time
too.

and yes, do u think CAT shud b conducted on
the lines of GRE n GMAT ? no way! i hope u must b kidding !
any n every1can get a 1600/1600 in GRE n 800 in GMAT. n 4get
abt the esaays n SOP - v all know where ppl get them
drafted frm , don't v? i wud've agreed 2 u 12345 had u said
that XAT n SNAP pattern must b changed cuz in XAT
all u gotta do is barron's, p&c, probability n manorama
yrbook n 4 SNAP gk just PCM with bio, history n God
knows what!!

that is wut i feel. counter-arguments r welcome but
plz give rational points only

regards,
aparna

wat the ****!!how the hell!!
ur over analysing the data here..GRE/GMAT are no jokes
they have samples from world over n then percentiles r awarded

Iam not saying good academics is everything.but hey how else will they know you have the best brains?
Yeah.. so they take take the safer way out. Its like selecting a CA bcoz he's a CA and he'll get placed anyway, regardless of the institute... plus it'll help push up the avg. salaries.

Taking abt transparency.. IIM's were not even giving out CAT percentiles till a few years back. They were also 'Caught' leaking papers, but what happened to the professors involved? nothing. case closed.

Agreed, they are still the best, but thats highly relative. IIM A was the only indian b-school (besides ISB ofcourse) to be featured in the world top 100 list. India was one of the few countries in the world to have b-schools when the iims were set up. Now it is just one of them. So are we really keeping pace?

Wink what i believe for cat - 27-02-2005, 05:56 AM

hi all,

yes i agree that cat is truly a great comprehensive that realy checks what stuff you are really made of and yes along with decision making powers on ur feet and being spontaneous enugh to take risks as well..yes i guess g.k is one section that cat paper setters should concentrate on as a person who will is believed to be taking the responsibilty of a manger shud be well verse as to what is happening in the real ecenomy....it will only improve the already briliant cat. and yes there shud each year be certain changes in the paper so that students dont just get the same situation and prepare accrding to that..
