Disturbances during actual CAT... - 15-11-2004, 09:41 PM

hi guys...

i think i shud've posted this some time back....

The thing bout disturbances...well...of invigilators coming for sign, or maybe notices put up, announcements etc etc...the main guys who can tell us will be the veterans themselves...PG, Maverick, Chandoo...tell us bout this...esp the guys who have answered CAT before...at least once...do give some info bout this...

During the Simcats there was always someone who took the sign....i have heard it happens during CAT too...its imp coz every second counts...if it is so, at what time does the invigilator come etc...

CL Chennai told us that the invigilators are supposed to verify whether you have correctly entered the test booklet number, registration number etc.

Some invigilators are decent ... they will look from the side and move on.
Others might snatch the question paper and OMR from you and look.

if possibe, when he is checking your bubble sheet, do questions on the question paper and bubble thse answers after that guy leaves.
there are some other kinda distrubances too..

during my exam, there was some function going on nearby and so had to listen to blaring music for 20 minutes, till the authorities asked them to shut down.

too much wind, my center was on the 4th floor, and papers fly around a lot, so ensure taht you have something heavy with you to act as a paper weight,

all this may sound too funny, but it did happen to me...
so watch out

cheers

Have taken CAT last year ...Here's my input..

# Be seated in your allocated seat as early as possible.....You'll get loads of time to fill the OMR sheet and cross check it .. The invigilators are supposed to complete the formalities in this time and not after giving you the Qn paper...

If you turn up late then u're bound to get disturbed by the invigilators' formalities and u'll be tensed while filing the OMR in a hurry ...

SO be before time and finish the formalities....you'll get ample time to gather your thoughts and cool your nerves ...

Other factors such as noise , functions , processions which are not in control of the examination center cant be avoided ...so it wud be better if u're prepared mentally for any such kind of stuff...

Keep your cool and nothing else wud matter .... ..( Tried this by taking a mock when everyone was trying their best to make noise with the firecrackers ...didnt affect my performance by a bit ... )

hey man... i would say it is not all that important. coz, this is something that you have to live with. Anyway, i would suggest you to do one of the following when the invigilator is disturbing you

- go through the rest of the paper or may be particular section you are in to get a feel as to what is in store for you.
- sharpen your pencil or something like that.
- or better still, go ahead and do whatever you are doing. you can always mark your answers on the paper.

i think its best to familiarise yourself with the test centre early. it is not such a good idea to go to the centre early on test day. it only plays on ur nerves and reduces ur focus.

chill man!

y getting anxious abt these trivial things...
if u will want these issues to matter in your performance, then they WILL!

so let these take a back-seat, relax!

waise, gng over to the centre a day prior to the CAT is a guud idea!

I think the signatures, verifications and all takes place before 11. ie 10.30-11 or so, though it depends from center to center.
And if your center happens to be next to a railway track, all you can do is plug your ears with cotton wool or something. Ab Lalu chacha CAT ke liye trains cancel nahi karwa sakte naa.

Moral of the story - There are many more things to worry abt wrt CAT and not these petty ones. :-)

hi guys...

thanx so much for all the quick replies...actually am not at all worried bout noise etc...all of us have to be mentally prepared for it...some invigilators act idiotic...they mite ask u somethin durin the paper...or even when he is close to u, takin the sign of another...u tend to think..' oh now he is gonna come to my table n i mite lose 1 or 2 minutes'...i know its useless thinkin bout this...but thoughts do tend to come...shall try my best to avoid them...however it shall be superb if they finish all the details bfore 11:00 am...dats what i mainly wanted to know...whether they disturb u in betn the paper...

Ashish
