Of all the topics before CAT, someone had to start this one :-)

Anyways, reading this is a million times better than going to the 519 thread and cursing TIME

Oh, by the way, my small contribution. I have seen some ppl show up with pencils sharpened on both ends. One end is for shading, the other is for ur usual calculation stuff. Obvy its useful only if u transfer orders in bulk to ur OMR sheet, otherwise its a fantastic waste of time .. see, I have analyzed it too :-)

Guys...

I am really in a mood to BS more..Please excuse me ...

Disclaimer : This analysis is based on my " Personal Opinion" which may or may not match with any PGite ...Doesn't matter anyway ( especially when you have confessed to BS )..Let's get back to business..

Well, Suppose your Attempt in any MOck ( or for that matter , CAT ) is like this :

VA/RC : 40
QA : 20
DI :25

Now, the basic ingredient for attempting so many question would ofcourse be a pencil...The Analysis which follows will show you what difference your choice of pencil could make...

The OMR sheets has the circle thingies which are around 3 mm in dia..Area = 3.14*9 mm^2 = 28.26 mm^2...For 85 Attempts , this translates to 2402.1 mm^2.

With a 0.5 mm pencil at a speed of 25 mm/s ...you can shade an area 25 mm^2 in one second..So, for shading 2402.1 mm^2 of area, you would need 96 Seconds.

Well, that number is based on a linear analysis. The OMR sheet calls for circular shadings where the speed reduces to half . ( owing to Centrifulgal forces )...

So, you need 192 Seconds !! i.e. 3 Minutes and 12 Seconds !!

So, play with the lead tip width and get your dream number..If you are able to find a pencil with 1 mm width lead, you can save 1 minutes and 36 seconds ...That would give you chance to do one more "sitter" in QA and raise your percentile by 1 or may be 2 points...

Now, I am feeling sleepy !! Need some tight cozy sleep !! Good night all ! All the best to all for the Pencil Selection...Contact me in case you are struck wih the calculation...

PS : It's not me.....It's my anxiety !! Kindly Adjust !!

I think, therefore I am ..............Rene Descartes

What's wrong with purple pencils...in fact they might distract people around you and cut down the competition a bit....I use Faber Castell HB pencils that are purple in color and they work very well...though I opted for these only after I made the stationery shop-wallah rummage through his entire stock (in vain) for my trusted Natraj pencils.

(I really wanted to put in my two bit of comments too...this thread takes the cake for the most absurd topic on PG, and surprisingly where comments have run on to the second page! That's an idea - we can have a thread to nominate, along with giving the links to, the most absurd threads initiated on PG...or maybe that's not a good idea after all, it might actually encourage more people to flaunt their intelligence)

IMS gave a set of 4 pencils (yellow with black stripes ... TIGER pencils), a sgarpener and an eraser.
The pencils have "I + IMS = IIM's" written on them.
Their check list for D Day includes "Take this kit with you".

If IMS pencils could guarantee me a seat at the IIM's I would buy them out.
