Corporate tie-ups with institutes - 06-11-2004, 06:26 PM

Hi all!

Yesterday i was placed in Oracle IDC (India Development Centre) during the campus recruitments at college, and they have offered me a systems programming job. Hooray!

They asked me if i was interested in higher studies, because they have tie-ups with a number of reputed institutes, and my education there would be sponsored by Oracle itself. Like an MS from the University of Illinois, a Master's from BITS Pilani, and a correspondence course from IIM-B. Oracle promises to support any of these endeavours.

It seems a number of corporates are tying up with reputed institutes like this. What do you suppose is the feasibility (or usefulness), for instance, of taking up a correspondence course from IIM-B while still working in Oracle?

Simon

Oracle's Tie Ups with Institutes - 07-12-2004, 06:01 AM

Hi PsymenSez,

I have been working with Oracle IDC for the last one year. Even I joined as a fresher. I am not sure about the M.Tech. from BITS Pilani, but yes Oracle does offer an MS from Illinois Institute of Technology.

The MBA that is sponsored by Oracle is PGSM (Post-Graduate Program in Software Management). It is not a correspondence course - your classes will be held at IIM Bangalore on Fridays and Saturdays. It takes 3 years for you to complete the course. The hitch - IIM Bangalore takes people with a minimum of 2 years experience for this course. So you may have to stay on for the next 2 years before you start with the MBA.

This is a good deal if you are not looking at moving out of the Software industry. But it's hectic working and studying at the same time. Anyway, congrats, as Oracle is a damn good place to work at.

Regards
Aman
