Hey Puneet,
Thanks for replying!
Well some days back even i thought that finance and economics are the same thing...but actually they are not!! and so if i end up saying all this crap that since i m interested in eco hence i wanna do mba in finance, they wud chuck me out. that is where the problem lies. and believe me....howsoever gud delhi university's economics division may be....i dont wanna go in for that....u can say tht i have high aspirations....but i just cant go in for DU...hv u ne other option in mind?
or any way by which i can convince myself that eco n finance ARE closely related....??

Hi manish,
I've heard that Macro and micro economics are firstyear-subjects at iims.Financial management is a separate subject, hence the two shouldn't be mixed up.I guess finance is more of an applied science than economics. But ,to the best of my knowledge ,students are not hired for economic-research related jobs during
placements.I don't think companies like crisil visit iims.Anyway ,it's better to corroborate this with an iim student. But there are instances where iim passouts have gone on to become economists.Raghuram rajan ,an iima alumnus,is now the chief economist at imf.
Btw, even I'm one of those pseudo-engineers interested in economics, though I
don't claim to know a lot about it.

Hi Shrikanth,
well i guess i m in the same footing....a "pseudo-engineer"...as u have beautifully put it....having an ardent passion for economics....without actually knowing a lot about it....i guess one genuine reason for going in for mba while u have a passion for economics would be that it STILL helps u keep all options open...while a degree in economics would close all other options to you.....however this may not sound to be a convincing explanation to the interviewers...what say you??

hi the_fountain and shrikanth,

let me assure u'all that eco+mba (preferably fin) is a terrific combo
can tell u this coz there r a few people in r coll with this combo, and believe me they r studs in their batches
also companies like CITI and others love to grill u on eco in their interviews, and if thats ur strong point.............boy u have them
so would advice both of u and anyone else with similar interests to give ur best shot for CAT or other exams, coz once u r in any bschool u people will definitely enjoy an advantage over others

cheers
jamil
