the second statement says that n years from now the kid will be twice as old as she is now.that means right now she is n years old.
since in the main statement the father says that n years from now his age will be 4 times the age of the kid,so his age n years from now will be 8n years.which means his age now is 7n years.similarly the age of the mother will be 5n years now.so the sum will be 12n years now and 14n years after n years.
