hi .... I have heard abt some ppl who had got percentiles as low as 70 in one section but they still managed some calls .... though the other two sects were exceptionally good (99+) and the overall percentile too arnd 99.

Now ... till wat percentile u can stretch it down in one section is a debatable issue ..... and any opinion on this wud be - well .. just 'an opinion'.

So as of now ... tis better u pull up ur socks n try to get a decent 95+ ( or atleast 90+ )in all the three. And the rest can be left to those 'final two hours' !!!

And anyways .. how far wud a 90 percentile be from an 80 percentile in VA .... hardly 5-6 marks more .. wat say ?? And with more than 50 dayz left, u can surely 'manage' that i feel.

hey abhi i've heard that IIM-A gives english more weightage (correct me if am wrong)....most probably the cut off for english is 24/25 but 26/28 is what you need to be on the safer side...its like you need to just clear cut offs in all the other sections but in english you need to get extra marks.......

all this is just a rough idea....heard from a lot many people...so do confirm

24 or 25 is not the cutoff surely for english........i know ppl with final converts with 21 net in english.....But generally ppl maximise in english cos a 99 in english really pulls up ur net score for obvious reasons

hey...

rite u r ...English can really maximise one's score...but the questions asked are sometimes vague...u really have to match ur point of view with that of the guy who set the paper...thats why accuracy mite vary in English section...maybe thats why its also imp to maximise ur attempts in English section...especially in Verbal Ability...so that the cut-offs can be crossed...i myself am still workin on it...rarely do i seem to get a good accuracy in English...

People also go to answer english and RC first as u r the most alert at the start of the paper...

well tht was before CAT 98 and tht was coz tht time CAT had a 50% wieghtage on VA tht was why IIMA had high eng cutoffs (tho now they'll be avg+)....btter be on the safe side and 98 % shud do...

not any more...u need decent %iles across all sections...or 1 gr8 section..99.5%+.one moderate section 95%+ and one OK section 90-92+ to see u thru...

for a better analysis search for the profiles thread of successful candidates and u'll get a fair idea

i agree with sunil that even 21 will do in va but u need to get 99% in other two section.............CL also gave 22 as va cutoff last year. but i"ve heard many time that 25 is must to get in va this really make me worry .

hiiii...gladiator [urf "prateek"] u dont need to come here yaar as u r cracking rc section for a long time and yet again in CL mock -5. but beware of me tommorow.

hey misha 28 in va mean approx 97 percentile which is very decent...... dont make me worry yaar. though i"ve also heard that iiim-A give more weightage to english............but its just speculation not confirm . so PGites plzzz reply......and remove confusion.

cheers

Re: what is minimum score needed in va section to clear cutoff - 26-09-2004, 01:09 AM

Ill sight two cases for you ppl to interpret
One is mine the other is of a frnd last year, CAT 2003.
Self:-
VA score:- 23(appx) %ile 87.6
DI 99 and quant 98 overall 98.2 NO CALLS

My friend
VA score 29(appx) %ile 99.5
DI 98.5 and quant 86.5 Overall 99.3 4 calls acli, Now at IIMC.

So a good score in verbal is surely better since it pulls up your overall score and hence your overall percentile.
In VA its a 2-D growth in %ile , in the section and also in the overall picture.
Last years experience has one more clear implication. YOUR BACKGROUND AND ACADS MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO IIM CALLS.
Hope that helps.

u need a min of 90%ile... n tht amounts to somethin around 21-22..
ie only 2 clear the cutoff.. ppl usually try n score in this sec..

Cheers
