Importance of Acads

Hi,
The answer to this question is not really going to affect my preparation but I'd still want to know - How important relatively is past academic performance? What is the worst academic profile that you have seen getting into an IIM?
I am a BTech student at IITD, and have a far from flattering academic record at college. Good record in school, and pretty decent extra-curriculars at IIT (with national levels in quizzing), and have been getting percentiles in the higher region in the mock tests that I have given thus far, so can hope to get to around 99.5 in CAT at the very least.
So, if I am able to justify my academic record (nothing can truly speaking though) can I manage final calls from one of the top three? I want to get to IIMB (because of personal reasons), not particularly keen on IIMA anyway, which I assume lays the most stress on acads. Of course I know that a lot depends on the GD and PIs too.

Well...sorry...yeah I know I should have searched the threads before starting a new one...slipped my mind...is being new on the forum a good enough excuse? But since I have already started it, unless someone has a problem, why don't we carry it on? I am sure I am not the only one with this query? I hope not!
