its bound to create a furore - 02-09-2004, 03:41 PM

Hey have anyone thought of the female cut off / BA / BCom cutoff??
Since IIMs want a good mix of ppl from various diverse backgrounds I feel they have special female cutoffs as well so that a few of those pooooooooor souls can get through

......???? whom are you calling poor souls Madam? Ever heard of SuzyQ? She kicks cat's ass everytime (mockcat to be precise, though the actual cat should'nt be a problem the way she is going).

(Thanks pagalguy, I had a vague feeling that in a hurry I had slipped somewhere)

I wanted to reply ... but err..the initial poster is a lady .. wonder what to say

BTW .. I have seen cases of profiling where girls are preferred. No hard data, but I do think profiling exists

would have loved writing more, but it may create controversy

yes, this kind of things happen in B-schools. a 99.45 may be given preferance over 99.55 but not beyond that.
source: distinguished professor of a top B-school whose name for obvious reasons I can't reveal.

hey the quote about "pooooooooooooor souls" was on a lighter vien.
but have observed that engineers have a tough battle as there are a fixed proportion for each background and u compete within that.THATS A FACT TO BE ACCEPTED
it might not matter if you get a 82 percentile as u r out of the race anyway but still it matters a big way in finally deciding "WHETHER U R IN OR OUT"
And thats what finally matters guys.Apart from the personal satisfaction of giving ur best shot u don't really gain anything until you get that FINAL call for admission.

Apart from this already 25% of seats already reserved

And then various other permutaions and combinations and finally what is the probabilty of YOU getting through??

I bet thats the MOTHER OF ALL PROBABILITY PROBLEMS.

And I very well expected a post from you Monsieur.

And what was supposed to create a furore here ? The thread or the special status accorded to the species of the fairer sex in what is supposed to be a "equal-status" India.

And also we were once discussing how "dressing in the "right" () manner" helps some chix to scrape thru the GD/PI . Maybe that will create some furore

hey dude .. thats where some clever gurls do make up the unequality that exists ... had seen that in the GD at wellingkar's where the guy was particularly impressed by one damsel in speech !!!

and before some of you shower me with abuses ... i have said SOME ... NOT all !!!

its not intended.but i think it happens that girls have a "natural" advantage when it comes the GD/interviews.the panel is generally made up of some sleepy/unshaven elderly men in their 40s or 50s.now its natural for these guys to feel elated when a pretty gal looking prim walks when they r tired of dealing with wierd boys of all kinds.its like the situation when you get a seat besides the most cute gal after standing for 40 minutes in a crowded bus.

so its not that they consciously do this, but its so internalised ,that they are well, almost led into doing this.girl power,eh??

ps--nah,i seem like one,but im not a MCP.
