lomi what do u think were the cutoffs for this papers?

Ashish

Aashish,

this was comparatively an easy paper. Anyone getting above 75 can expect 3 to 4 calls. Anyone with 70 above about 1 to 2 calls. In short if u get 67.5 u mite get one call. Below tat its not worth it. I wasnt much intersted during this exam. Gave it juz fr the sake of it. Anyhow u keep improving all the best. still 64 days to go

hi lomi...

well the cutoffs u have told seem to be a bit high...howeva i agree the paper was easy...howeva just cudnt believe that i cud do better in a 4 section paper...

neway can u tell me bout the best mocks u have answered till now...those which are almost of the CAT type..not as tough as IMS....(their DI is pretty tough)....for example mocks from CL or TIME...u must have ans them naa?

Have u answered last year's SIMCATs? i answered 2, and i must say they r pretty tough...they really bring ur morale down...

Hi ashish,
It really shouldn't matter whether the simcats are easy or tough.
What matters the most is your %ile.
For instance,in sim1 a score of 45+ fetched you a decent %ile.
One shouldn't get disheartened with poor absolute scores,as long as you are doing well on a relative scale.
The same thing holds in b-schools as well where you are appraised relatively and not in absolute terms.

hey shrikanth..

thanx for the mail...yest i answered Sim 2 from last year and got only 27..my lowest mock score...the verbal and RC rection was real bad...my morale was real down...evrytime that happens i have to read somethin to keep up the positive attitude...

Shrikanth, Lomi, tell me how do u keep up with the pressure of the 2 hrs?? how does the speed factor come about? coz till now my max attempts have been 78...not more...am always scared of attemptin more...

tell me this...how long do u take for individual questions - for example for jumbled semtences i take around 4 min...if there are 6 etc...will have to compromise on accuracy if i go faster...(i know this qstn mite sound a bit vague)...

when did u move from accuracy to speed?? my accuracy ranges like in the range 70-85 percent

Re: Ims Act - 5 - 19-09-2004, 11:46 AM

Hi ashish,

Ya its tough to immprove attempts after some time. It also depends whether this paper suits u and all tht stuffs. See try doing new things like try some other way fodoing jumble sentences. Go frm choices to answer. Fit all 4 and decide which is best. Or decide as u move on frm 1 choice to other. See any question shdnt take more than 2 mins. Tats it. If u cant do then am sorry. Whether its QA or ENG or DI its 2 mins. In RC its 10 mins at max per para fr 5 qs. See accuracy has to be 75%. if u can attempt at the max lets say 90 in a normal paper. u need to get 65( u shd aim high). Then its must to have an accuracy of 80%. so do 2 or 3 mocks and determine ur max attempts and then start working on ur accuracy. This is wat i did. Though IMS says to set ur accuracy and then start improving ur speed.

Coming to ur qustion of cat like paper. Have u taken cat 2003 retest paper which shd be there in ur cat bulletin itself. do tht first. Thts exact cat paper. Other papers i have taken is 1 sim frm last yr. I wud recommend these papers: MCT - 1, Time 505, time 509. These were good fr meand also i felt tht tany time paper tries to mock cat in a good way than IMS paper.

Coming to cutoffs being very high. Come on it was an easy paper. 67.5 is least u can get and expect a call. I dont change on tht. There are only 1500 seats at the most in IIMS and they give calls to roughly 3000 students. So understand u gotta be in top 3000. Also work experience, academic background also matters, so u decide wat shd be the cutoff. a score of 67.5 will be in top 1 percentile in real cat so u have a good chance of getting 1 call and tats it.

hey lomi...

thanx for the mail...did tell me a lot...howeva some things i wud like to tell which i have heard on my own...its rite that u need a high percentiile in cat..but sometimes scores as high as 67-75 are not even needed...i know people with 60-61 who have got 2-3 calls...that could have even been based on their acads....(but those too werent so good actually)....

finally gettin the call or not is ur luck...wat we can do is prepare for the worst...howeva i am presently havin a difficulty decidin my strengths and weaknesses...they seem to differ in mocks...ok i can see that VA and LR seem to stay constant...how r u decidin...?

hi ashish,
it depends on which cat are u talking abt. one can be very sure tat the cutoffs vary every mockcat. so u cant have a constant saying like get 60 we will get a call. it varies fr each cat. now fr the example i wud say tht fr cat 2003 a 60 will get 2 or 3 call fr a normal guy without any great acads. So *it depends abt wat u are talkin. also as u say on a safe side its better to aim 5 more tahn tht.[/blur]

and also wanna add ya as u say decide which is ur strong point and concentrate on it. my strong areas are DI, LR and at times quants if it suits me. am good at verbal reasoning but erratic at Verbal ability. also RC is too bad fr me.

Re: Ims Act - 5 - 21-09-2004, 12:25 AM

hey people
i gave it yest... was late as usuall! got only 1 hr 40 mins. think i got ard 46-47, add 7 more in 10 mins...that makes it ard 54.
thought the test was easy...too easy. sure that the IIM cutoff would be ard 78-80. RC was also simple (definately if compared to sim cat1). problem was timing urself. i guess everyone faced it.
havent checked my scores online yet. the score i gave is however well calculated.

study hard
