Is CareerForum taking me for a ride? - 05-08-2004, 03:09 PM

I mailed CF to find out about the course fees for their test series, and got a mail from them outlining the options available, which are:

Option I (Focus CAT 2004 Test Pack) :

* 8 Full length nationally ranked MOCK CATs
* 15 Full length nationally ranked MOCK CATs to handle the variations in CAT
* 36 Sectional Speed excercises.
* CAT Archive ( 15 CAT paper patterns based on CAT paper from 1990 onwards till date).
Course Fees : Rs.3500/

Option II (CATScan with Countdown) :

* 8 Full length nationally ranked MOCK CATs
* 15 Full length nationally ranked MOCK CATs to handle the variations in CAT
Course Fees: Rs.2500/-

Option III (CATScan) :

* 8 Full length nationally ranked MOCK CATs
Course Fees : Rs.1000/-

Now what they say is that the 8 full length MOCK CATS can only be taken in the classrooms, whereas the 15 full length ones can be taken at home. Since I am from Nasik and they dont have a classroom here, taking the 8 MOCK CATs is ruled out for me.
But they insist that I must enroll myself in any of the 3 options above even if it means that I pay a 1000 bucks extra for a Test Series which I will not be able to give and neither will they send me the question papers. Of course, it's their Test Series and they can do whatever the hell they want to do with it, but I find their attitude quite high handed.

I dont have much experience with other institutes so I wanted to know if any of you have faced such problems before, either with CF or with anyone else? And if any of you could give some suggestions as to which institute's test series (correspondence) I can enroll myself for (keeping in mind the quality of the papers), it would be most helpful. I have already enrolled for TIME's AIMCAT series.

Thanks,
Abhi.

They told you the truth before you joined in. May be its their policy .. so I don't really see too much of an issue.

If they hadn't informed you before hand then you surely have a grievance . They choose to run their company the way they deem fit...

The best idea would be to join a class which suits your needs.

Yes yes, i know it's entirely their prerogative what they do with their company and their test series.
I was miffed because I had almost made up my mind to join their test series after hearing good reports about them and then they had to throw in this extra piece of information which cast doubts on my wish to enroll with them.
Perhaps I should have included a poll along with this topic. What do you people suggest, is it worth going for 15 test series of Career forum even though I'll be gifting them 1000 bucks extra for nothing?
Suggestions about other good test series of other institutes would be most welcome too....

maybe you should invest the money in getting papers from elsewhere...
i think their policy is ridiculous and that they are out to rip u off that 1k. do the aimcats and do something else. screw CF!

Even the IMS correspondence comes with 2 simcats which I had to miss since my home town is very far from Chennai. But IMS gives u a choice b/n 2 tests and 8 tests.I choose 2 tests and lost less money But seriously IMS tests are no where near actual CAT practice.I dont know what they want to prove with their test papers. But the material was gud.So no regrets from my side. The TIME test series wud be a better one when compared with SIMCATS

I feel such rules are made because sitting in a secluded room making decisions you don't think of all the possible situations. If you write straight upto the head honcho level I am sure your problem will be resolved.

That is, if you are *that* interested in the course.
