thats a real bad luck that your percentage has fallen below 50..
but since you are giving cat... fill the iifm form... its not costing much anyways.... these cases are common adn are not usually treated harshly.. since it is a backlog paper.. so you will have the results by the time iifm gd pi comes.. so fill your paper.. and write the percentile as 53.... i guess things should go smooth... and same with other colleges ......

actually you have completely similar profile to mine.. almost simialr percentages in 10th 12th and exactly same in graduation.. adn I also did my btech from a dectn Govt college in a capital city. A fresher too.... there are 65% freshers in our batch.. that should be good enuf for you.... and no allergy to frehsers was seen... actually at IIFM people like freshers more than Work ex people.. but there needs to be some balance... we learn so much from them.....

Technical knowledge ... well depends upon what PI panel you get into.. I was asked very simple questions ... like the difference ( not technical but layman difference) between celeron and centrino... just to check the confidence level in your subject.. I was also aksed how to troubleshoot an error in a pen drive if its not working.. so very basic things.. hell no C C++.. what are they gonna do with c c++... leave those things for the TCS and Infy interviews... interview panel asks questions on 3 aspects

1) technical about own stream... like the one I told above...
a guy from Electronics was asked to design the ckt for a hand dryer... thats a very general thing.. so dont take tension about that..

2) technical about forestry and environments... well I am ashamed to tell that this is not what really happens.. I was asked about forest cover in my state.... and I had no clue anyways.. then do take care that any questions you answer u should not sound like a person who is totally market and money minded.. like my interviewer was trying to see what I felt about TATA nano... at first I was trying to project an image that it will be good since it has wider market and also people with low incomes may afford it... but did not explicitly tell them this.. finally I told them it was not worth it since the impact on environment wont be good. that did the job i guess.

3) GK they will keep on asking some questions on happenings... like the NANO was launched day before I reached Bhopal for GD PI... so the question.... also there were questions about present things happening in my home state... thats all..... a chilled interview..

most of the faculty here is very friendly and cooperative.. if you have a forestry, development, rural marketing, or any other plan or entreprenurial thing in mind, dont forget to mention that.. it counts hell lot of marks if you have a plan in hand.. just tell them and with a good cat percentile.. u are good to go...

i was in a mix ...dropping yr for cat or not

i want to desperately join a b school as soon as i complete my degree
dont wanna drop coz i did it for b tech prep (which was not really useful)

wud surely keep u troubling with queries

would love to answer..
and saying that i am a frehsher... had got placed in two IT majors in India.. but kept on waiting for joining.. one didnt bother to give it till date.. other was too late to give it... so eventually I have a year down.. but still count as fresher... advice would be to go for mba right away.. there are many in my batch who have just passed.. we got treats from many who graduated while being at IIFM.. best of luck for cat and IIFM..

we are sorry that we had not been able to answer the queries in the past few days as we were having the holidays and we all were out of the campus.
Regarding your query, about 5 students in the junior batch are having the experience in the IT field out of the 69 students, for senior batch i cant tell the figures right now but at least 5-6 students are there.
and your second part of the query, it is right that 70% weightage is given to the CAT score but still you have to perform in the Interview and the GD. with high percentile the chances are very high to get in but not sure. There are students who were having high percentile of 97, but had there name in the 3rd list cleared.

the cut off specified by the college for making calls are
55 OM and OBC 25 SC ST PD...
In OM last student who made through had a percentile of 78.4(open merit) ..but at that percentile you have to be really good.. or have something special to impress the interviewers... a good cat percentile really comes handy.... not many people clear at that percentile.... but at the same time be sure ..IIFM is a sectoral college and so people are selected over a percentile range and the interviewers are very choosy.. if you are good you can get seleceted at lower percentiles.. and if they dont find you good enough .. 97 is not good enough either...

theres no sectional cut-off explicitly stated by the college .. but to be on a safer side >50% in each section would be good.. admission committee revises it each year....

on what patterns call are made is not disclosed... government colleges dont give out such information since they dont need to impress anyone....
I would suggest fill the form.. write/ click(since online) the cat get a good percentile... and come over for GD PI... rest we can talk here....

I have 4.5 work-ex in IT. Currently in IBM ( From last 1.5 years). Also working hard for CAT. Hope to get good percentile. Let's see how it works out
