Then I go to QA and giv it full 45mins and den back to Di for 15mins and Rc's for 20mins. Although my scores fluctuate my average is around 90s...do u think this is an ok strategy as it works for me...or shud i make it more organised?
3rdly....QA is my weakness...Im aiming to clear the cut offs in it and increase my OA %ile by VA and DI...in the paper shud i continue giving equal time to all 3sections or more to Quant or more to VA and DI?
And lastly I kno that u guys are not for this but it'l be a huge help if ny1 could suggest me the colleges that i should apply to....my %ile range b/t 80-96....gettin an odd 70 smething.
Thakns a lot for reading through this long post...

Hi ekta,
1)I dont have much idea about IIFT cutoffs. So I am leaving that to one of my friends to answer.
2)I dont advise much of a switching as it takes time to adjust. However if its suiting you, you can go ahead. However regarding the order you are doing, I don't think doing set based questions (DI and RCs) in the end is a good bet. Do look at how you have fared in the last few mocks in the DI and RC sets that you have attempted in the end. If its bad, try doing the set based questions first and individual questions in the end (VA and QA).
3)Time apportioning is a personal call. What you can do is clear cutoff in some subject quickly first (whichever is ur strength) and use that time as a cushion in quants and incase you think you are through Quant(made a reasonable number of attempts), you can get back to that subject and maximise your score. Again its a trade off.

Hi Seniors
right from the beginning of my test taking days, data sufficiency questions have been a stumbling block for me.Despite scring well in excess of 90%ile in DI and verbal, my %iles hover between 87 and 95,simply because of a relatively poor show in quant, and more so, because I manage to get the DS questions wrong with near 100%strike rate!! No matter how convinced I am about the answer,I always end up with a -1.
Now,the lure of the DS questions is difficult to ignore as they involve lesser amount of calculations compared to conventional problems.frustrated with my previous experiences with DS,i feel like avoiding this block of questions completely.but leaving 4-5 questions altogether in a section that will offer only around 20 questions this year would amount to stupidity.I feel that DS can well be a saviour when the quant section is on the tougher side and leaving it out is just not the solution for me!
Seniors plz help!plz share some gyaan about how to turn things around in DS and how to approach them.

Hi,
I have a doubt regarding RC's. i have been reading books and editorials since 5 months. but still I have problem with the full comprehension of the passage even if my understanding of the particular passage is good..I am not able to score in Qs. When i use strategy of reding passage first and then attempting Qs. then while reding it took me around 6-7 min and while answering the Qs. in took arond 6 min(including the time in which I refer to the passage again for accuracy) but still accuracy is arond 2-3 correct out of 5.Altogether Rc take my 14-15 min ...to reduce time I tried tech of reding Qs first and then doing Qs and passage parallely..but this tech is also not reducing my time nor increging my accuracy..When it comes to CL Rc's(short or moderate) my accuracy is 60-70 %.but in TIME RC's (very long RC's) in drop down to 20-30 %.I am really confused as wat strategy to adopt in short and long RC's ..also in Rc's in which I am comfortable with n in Rc's which is tough for me..
One more thing I am not also very good in Verbal part..i can score onle in para completion and some CR Qs or para jumles(VA is my relatively weak section)...pathetic in VA..usually I do VA in middle..So can u please suggest me wat should be my approach regading diff Rc's and also in full VA section....And in wat seq to do that...ie first Rc or VA or vice versa...or somethin else....Thanks

We all know that mock scores do reflect how much are you prepared but then 75 -96 means you are very close to good college. IIMs and few top schools will surely consider Quant cutoff so you can work upon improving your accuracy in quant.
And remember anything can happen on D day.

DS is always been an important area. it had appeared in both Quant and DI sections for recent CAT.
Just try solving some easy problems from online tests then come back to mock tests questions and try solving them.
Try not to mark the answer too early. Try putting the data on papers and make some equations and play with numbers, its quite possible that you will get something out of it.

IIFT certainly had sectional cut offs when i appeared in 2007.. the gk cutoffs were ridiculously low.. something like less than 1 for a 15 marks section...

99%ile indicates gr8 potential in u.CAT is all abt picking the rite or easy questions.a -1 might be getting a set wrong completely with 1 question rite.if u attempted only 1 set may be u gave too less tym to DI.identify the mistake was it silly mistake or fundamental and work accordingly.i hope it helps.

Nikhil,
RCs are all about concentration. It depends on the stretch of concentration you can maintain while doing it. If your concentration breaks after 1 or 2 passages, take a break and do something else like QA or DI or some para jumbles. Generally people( who are not avid reader) losses concentration after 2 passages. So you can try this one.
You should just have a look on questions and find two things in the question-
a)Key word
b)what d question is asking(inference type/application type/judgement type) Depending on your hit rate , you can go for the passage first in which questions are most of your type. (I felt inference type o question on difficult side)
Don't bother about coaching classes keys.In CAT exams also their released answer keys are not always correct(VA), So you can proceed with your natural learning.(If their are sensible mistakes on your part, learn it)
About your VA strategy, No you can't try a new approach. Bcoz VA can't be improved in 10-15 days. So do what you are doing best. If you are not good at VA, my suggestion is don't go for grammar.RCs , do in breaks and go for other parts as you like.
Just try to clear cut off in VA(if it is nightmare for you like it was 4 me-> target 33% of marks(ballpark figure-may vary on difficult level)

I never Lose,Either I win or I learn.
