i am not the peanut u mentioned in the post but i would like to reply ....
question selection is very important in quants and di..
pls spend 5 - 10 min to scan through all questions .. clicking 20 question is not a big deal .. by this scanning u can identify , question which u can do ..
bookmark it ...
now try solving one by one .. if u stuck at any question after solving for 2 -3 min, leave it as such and move to next ques even if u feel that question is solvable in another 10 min... like wise finish first set of questions... after that solve the questions which u got stuck ..
u know why i insist u do this ? simple mind game : if u have solved some 7 - 8 prob in 20 min with 2-3 per prob, u will be surely backing u up with confidence to solve in quick time than u expect.. do those in another 15 min..
so totally 5-10(scanning) + 20(first round) + 15(second round) = 40 - 45min
if u r left with any question after 40 min, do it at the last ..
similarly follow the same for DI
see how it works !

Re: Reduce the stress and crack CAT'09 -

hello puys,
I completed my b.tech this year in May and don't have any work-ex as yet....
How much will it matter if I don't get any work ex even during the interview stage ??
Our family owns a wholesale business (production & selling of vernacular books) and I have sat at the counter with elders from May - Sept.. Can this be mentioned as a +ve thing in an interview ??
Since I am not getting any software jobs, should I opt for b.p.o ?? For a s/w engineer will a bpo job be looked down upon by the b-school interviewers ?? ..
i am gonna give the cat exam everything and preparing very hard for it but this 'work-ex' factor keeps nagging....
Would be really nice of someone to respond to this query....Thanx in advance..

Hi Puys,
Don’t know whether to laugh at myself, or look down in pity. Last year never prepared for CAT except for the writing AIMCATS. Always was in a range of 65-75%le. Went to give the CAT and scored 93%le(VA-96,DI-90,QA-66). So thought might be "kahin to apne bhi dum hain" and I can crack it. Prepared for QA this year and started giving AIMCATS. Saw all the percentiles from (50-94).DI has taken a beating this time, though that is getting better. I don’t know yaar, I feel like I have started seeing a dream which is not made for me.i don’t know what I need to do for these 20 days. Guys I am ready to leave anything, for this. Please give me how to analyse and correct myself for the exam
I am looking at 97-98%le which would help me secure around 3-4 calls given I am an OBC, with work-ex and have some good percentages in +2
Will i ever be able to make it

Re: Reduce the stress and crack CAT'09 -

Mantra to relax by TIME
Time students can check at their homepage ..
Tips for the D-Day(s) by TIME A new format of CAT and a whole host of attendant questions must be ravaging the minds of all students burning the midnight oil for the D-Days. What could be the pattern? What is the number of questions in the test? What should be the ideal time allocation strategy? Have I prepared enough and is this going to give me the coveted call? Is ‘Probability’ probably going to come in CAT or is it going to be the ‘P&C’ year? Will there be a high focus on Vocabulary or are the RCs going dominate the Verbal section? The list of such questions is endless.
So what should you do?
De-stress, Relax and Unwind.
You must have been under a lot of pressure for the past many months and this is the time to recite the magic mantra: ‘Oh! God, I have done all I could and the rest is in your hands’. Over the past many years we have seen the best of students cracking under the enormous (self-created) pressure and therefore it is critical that you reduce the pressure and lighten the load on your mind if you are to do well in CAT2009. How should one do this? To this end, you should observe the following two things.- You should keep telling yourself that, as far as the preparation for the exam is concerned, you have done whatever you could do and that you will now do your best in the exam. Tell yourself that the end-result does not matter to you –– and more importantly, believe in that. Remember that you will not be able to achieve anything by worrying about your preparation. Please remember that not doing well in CAT2009 is not the end of the world and that there will be numerous other management entrance exams where you can prove your mettle and come out with flying colors. An enterprising, hardworking and intelligent person like you will be able to achieve many more things in life!
- You should not undertake any serious preparation in the last two days to the CAT. Certainly, do not work on any new test papers or exercises; the most you should do is ‘light revision’ – brushing up on formula. You can pick up select problems from the AIMCAT papers that you have taken and run through them – try to recollect the concept involved and how you should solve it. DO NOT solve the question again.
If the concept or the working out appears difficult, do not worry – just leave such questions out. Tell yourself that in the CAT you are not expected to answer ALL the questions (or anywhere near all the questions) and you have enough leeway in leaving out questions. Do not try to “take stock of the situation” by listing down the areas that you are not comfortable with (and feeling miserable about them).
hope this helps everyone out here...
ATB to all...
PS: courtesy of the above post is solely of TIME people

Re: Reduce the stress and crack CAT'09 -

All topics were nice. couldnt resist myself from replying to these posts! A nice initiative. Lemme now tell my story. I have a work exp of 3.5 yrs. This is my second attempt. Last yr i got around 75 percentile. I did take it lightly. Like every other person, i thought of taking this cat seriously. Initially i was Lethargic. I scored 85%ile in my first mock cat. It was a good start from my perspective. Then i thought, if i took these tests seriuosly, i could score even higher. The results showed inverse trend. scores started falling.. came down to even 50%ile once. Then I realised that cracking the CAT involves keeping oneself cool and composed. As one puy rightly said, we need to believe in ourself. we need to enjoy every moment of problem solving instead of tackling them seriously. I have been following this for the past 2 or 3 mock cats. I could see my score increasing. Since i work(like many) i dont find time to prepare. I know I cant tell this as an excuse. I would say I haven't planned my time properly.
But I feel we can make much difference with 25 days left. So puys, if u r scoring low %iles like me, pls dont get demotivated. We have some preciuos time left, we will prove ourselves. All the best to each one of u
