Is the PGPCM of MICA the right course for me ? - 16-07-2004, 09:49 PM

I have just finished my BE in computers from Mumbai University. But my real interest are in films n filmmaking. I have just joined a course on film ediiting and to be more safe i am planning to do MBA or a similar such management course. I heard about MICA and their programme sounded very interesting. I want to know from ppl who hav already joined MICA or from someone who has a good knowledge about their course whether it is useful in the field of films . I knows its an ideal course of advertising and probabaly for Media Organisations like Sony n Zee. But these are again more of television based companies. Plz help me out and even of its off topic just post in ur answer if u feel it might help me . thank You.

Dear Buddy,
Glad to find another guy who's interested in MICA. MICA is my dream institute but I want to go in for advertising. I just wanted to tell you that MICA is only into Advertising, corporate communication, Marketing research, Brand Management, Account Planning etc. The closest you can get to film making is Ad Film making. If you're interested, it is the best course and the best institute in the country. However, if you are focussing fully on Film Making, you'd better look somewhere else.

Anyway best of luck with your decision.

I agree to Corleone's views about MICA.

Being a 2nd year student of MICA's PGPCM, i can tell u, that the four specialisations as mentioned earlier viz., Brand Mgmt, Account Planning, Market Research and Media Mgmt(WHich involves Planning and buying etc) is far from your interests in Film Making. The aim of this course is to churn out managers for the communications and mktg industry.

MICA has a short term creative crafting course which maximum prepares u for the ad film making part. we also have a short term course in broadcasting mgmt, and a very learned teacher called Prof. Mathew who teaches something called Film Studies, which deals with social constructs and society in general. That perspectivre might help u, But otherwise, I think I am sorry to disappoint u that there is no real course which deals with overall aspects for FIlm making.

Wishing u best of luck for ur endeavours
Saunak

Okie thanx guys ...actually i should have framed my question differently .... i want to know if it would help me get into a film production company ...so basically i am talking about handling the various projects without getting into the technicalities of film making? And also someone told me it would be helpful if i want to run a multiplex or cinema theatres ? is it true ?

Well Then I think the short term broadcasting mgmt course as well as the PGPCM course is a good fit for you then. MICA has always been exploring oppurtunities to have an enriching relationship with most players in this field.

SOme of the Broadcasting mgmt students were absorbed into prime film prodn cos like Zee, Sony, Balajis etc....

Hope that answers ur queries. And I feel Wit the perspective u get from MICA, U can run almost any businesses. Entertainment would definitely be a core competency

ALl the best
