CAT is about innate talent or smart preparation? - 06-07-2004, 06:05 PM

The premier exam for creame de la creame of india is all about having a smart preparation to find 60-70 correct answers out of 150 qns given and not about a person's innate ability to handle business decisions. And once a guy with experince in IT for 24 months crack the exam he wil certainly get admission to one of the iims, even though his/her experience in IT has got absolutely o relevance to the business domain. So i think CAT in its existing format should be scrapped and another selection process which takes into account the persons capability in a business environment.I invite all the doodes out ther (especially simba)to come up with alternative processes for CAT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

couldn't have agreed you any better.

but the story is same for Civil Services exam too.

i think the start should be made by making the whole selection process more transparent. people must know what they are required to do to get an admission into the IIM they desire for.

If they told you what they were looking for, you could practice and make yourself perfect in that, not unlike we do for the cat!
The cat is an IQ test of sorts and they want intelligent, quick, smart and efficient minds to mould. I dont think business acumen is something we are born with - training can do wonders
Besides the selection process has been successful in as far as it has been producing good managers for many many years; let us not doubt the system - i'm sure the stalwarts heading these b-schools are more concerned about the appropriateness of the selection process than we are!!

At the end of the day, whatever be the paper style , it is ppl with self confidence who are gonna make it. And confidence just doesnt come like that. It needs lots of desciplined preps.

So instead of cribbing , prepare hard , give it your best shot and leave the rest to Almighty.

Lord, grant me patience, but please hurry!!

It is a blend of both talent 'n smart prep..
THey need to complement each other.U need to use ur Talent to prep. smart .And on the d-day ,the thing that matters is the smartness with which u cull out questions ,and hw u manage the 120 mins..-well that was my own view -yet to test it....

Any type of exam will boil down to just one fact : How you can keep your cool .... the quintessential factor ... L U C K !!!

And i am sure our "leading" coaching classes will manage to unlock the codes to the toughes exams .. or best .. LEAK THEM ..

Anywayz, i think the high cut offs eliminates some deserving people who work and still manage to come up with 98% iles with no calls .. Seriously beleive that VERBAL section serves no purpose at all .. except for messing up people's scores !!!

But then .. in a country with so many candidates .. and so few seats .... Its not the correctness that will matter ... Only the quicker method works .. and is generally applied !!!

Change is Permanent ... Growth is Optional !!!
