Thnks for starting this thread. I took my GMAt 5 days back n got 690/5.0 .
My as of now profile:
1. 3yrs exp in IT
2. decent acads
3. not so great EC's
4. continous highest ratings in my job
The only 2 options available for me are GL and TAS(in house management recruitment for group of companies for which I work. It also considers GMAT score) .
Please tell me how can I strengthen my candidature for greatlakes in coming 6-7 months I have. What are the various options available to improve EC's while working. My company is involved in some NGO activities so I am planning to be a part of that. Any other advice would be highly appreciated

1 more query, if I am applying thorugh GMAT, just sending a copy of my official GMAT score is enough or greatlakes also takes the route via GMAC, pearson n all,I mean I will apply for score to be sent to GL n then pearson will send my score.

Hi anksgupta,
An offcial copy of GMAT is needed during the application. This is done by either opting for the score to be sent to Great Lakes while appearing for your GMAT or requesting an additional score report through GMAC.

Hi anksgupta,
You belong to a competitive group - IT industry, 2-4 years of experience and hence its essential to differentiate yourself. Great Lakes lays a lot of emphasis on extra curriculars. Karma Yoga (Community Service) is an integral part of the course and being active member of NGO activities would be helpful. Bottom line - do something that you are passionate about and not with goal of admissions.

Dear Great laker, Request you to please evaluate my profile for admission to Great lakes in the forthcoming admission cycle. I am an Indian IT Male , with 4 years of work experience. I am a bit concerned about my GMAT score, which is not too good for the Indian IT Male. Can you please comment on whether i should go ahead with the application or retake the GMAT and then apply? My detailed profile is as below. * Class Xth : 85% * Class XII th: 88% * B.E - 2005 batch (Information Technology) * Extracurriculars: Average * Work-Ex- 4 years in SAP by September 2009 (out of which 1 Year International Exposure). * GMAT: 680 (AWA 5.0) Also, I am currently based in the UK. So, request you to please advise if a telephonic interview is possible if i am shortlisted for the interview. Appreciate your kind inputs and awaiting a kind reply. Best Regards, Raghav.

Hi raghav, A telephonic interview is possible and about your GMAT score, anything above 700 is considered to be a good score, however 680 is a competitive one as well. Combined with your work experience of 4 years and your academics performance you have a decent profile. However, other than the GMAT score and work experience, Personal Interview and essays play an important part in the admission process as well. So, concentrate on your essays in the application and for the Personal Interview round, if you have a brief idea about the profile you want to go in Post MBA or the specialization you want to take up in the course, do a thorough research on it. There is nothing more that impresses the inteviewer than candidates with a single focus. So, All the best and do post if you have more queries!!

Hello Greatlaker, considering the current market scenario, where people are trying to get into B-schools to avoid recession, coupled with GL's increasing repo n new campus, can we expect avg GMAT n CAT score to rise?

Definitely the impressive job we did in terms of placements and state of the art campus would see an increase in average CAT and GMAT score due to increasing no of applicants. However,Great Lakes always takes a holistic view of overall profile including relevant work exp , academics and extra curriculars along with CAT/GMAT score.

Just adding to the reply...We expect the GMAT/CAT score to increase this year due to the parameters mentioned by you.The median GMAT/CAT score of the present batch (i.e the Patriots) is 690 and 97% respectivey. Though Great Lakes would be taking a holistic view of the overall profile, a score above the average should give you an edge.
