I have a couple of doubts regarding the application process...

1. There are two sections in the application form which ask for 'Awards & Achievements' - one in the academic profie section and another in the non-academic section. And here the one mentioned under the academic profile section has an additional column for the 'level' (state/ national/internatl). Is this only for academic/ curriculum related stuff.
If I have to mention something like a 1st prize in Paper Presentation in a national level tech fest- where should I put that? (ideally we should be putting that under the non-academic section but the fact that there is no mention of any 'level' there forced me to clarify this)

2. Considering the fact that I will be submitting my form by Dec'09 end- Can I click the 'ask for recommendation' tab now? As per my understanding a separate email will be sent to my recommenders and they will need to respond to it (I think the contact details where they need to respond will be mentioned in the mail). Will there be a problem if the recommendation reaches you almost a month before my final submission of the form.

Once again request your help as usual with the above.
Hi R_IMI,

1) You can mention about the First prize under the 'Academic' Section if you have won the prize during your college days. In case, it was won while you were working you would need to put it under Non Academic section. You can specify the level in the description. You can also use the optional essay to briefly describe your achievements.

2) Yes, you can ask for recommendations now. A suggestion to all, its good to get your recommendations early.

Though Great Lakes would be taking a holistic view of the overall profile, a score above the average should give you an edge.

Hi Adcom team,

Just adding to my previous query, while I understand that my score is low, i can definitly say that I would have good reco letters and would work on my essay very well since I have won awards at work too.
There is also another thing here. Even if i try to give GMAT again to improve my score there are no dates available before 3rd Jan.
Please advise me what I need to do since Im very eager to study at GLIM.

Hi

If you are confident that there are aspects of your profile that have the ability to supercede the GMAT score, we encourage you to apply.

Hi.. Just go ahead and apply! There is no way one can determine who will get shortlisted or not. So your best bet is to spend all your energy on your application and create that edge.

Any new laptop should work just fine. We use most of the Microsoft Office packages and beyond that statistical and analytics packages such as SAS and SPSS. The other I think SPSS is the most resource hungry among these. A bare skeleton skeleton configuration that I can think of is:

Atleast a 2GHz processor
2 GB RAM (upgradable for your own sake)
About 667Mhz Bus Speed (Its kind of standard or even below standard these days)
Optional: Graphics Card (Only if one is into gaming and we do have pretty intense gaming tournaments here - right from Counter Strike to AOE to NFS to what not!)

Beyond that its all pretty standard.

The IT Systems here are pretty flexible and you can really choose whatever you want. For example, I have a Mac and it works just fine. So just go ahead and get the notebook of your choice.

1. Roles are significantly based on past experience and performance during interviews. Yes, the roles offered range from Business analysts to Business relationship managers. I would like to believe that there is a learning curve for every person and companies are determined to put you through that before they start entrusting you with more responsibilities. Thats why it is not very unusual and in no ways a potential hindrance. In fact, there are several people, who have taken this up as a challenge and companies have only been happy to help them work their way up the ladder. So a lot depends on the person himself/herself.

2. We put up a split of average salaries on the website. In this specific category, the average was between 8 lakhs to 12 lakhs INR.

3. Frankly, there is no specific answer to this question because of its sheer subjectivity. We had someone with about less than 4 years experience who bagged the highest salary package last year. Whereas there was someone who was much more experienced but could not match or even come anywhere close to that amount. Again, from what I have come to realize through my MBA is that, this degree is not as much about salary hikes as much it is about skill set enhancement. If you are able to make the most out of the gruelling 12 months that you spend at the B school, you can be rest assured that your revenue streams for the remainder of your life are only going to go up.

All the best.
Hi desperately pag,

thanks for giving an on the job profile.
