Great Lakes, Chennai Admissions 2010 : requesting for profile review - 11-07-2009, 09:36 AM

Hi Greatlaker

I am a following up with great lakes for the past few years and am much interested to get my mba in this wonderful institute. I just waited for my 2 years of completion in work since the intitute preferes so. Could you please review my profile

10th - 87.6%
12th - 90.16%
BE.EEE - 81.29% (under Anna University)
EC - * Acted in 5 stage plays both on behalf of organisation and inside the organization itself in these 2 years. One performance was for entertainment of Cancer patients.* Took around 26 hours of training from TANSACS for imparting training to the college students on AIDS but the project was delayed due to a management approval.

Am a very good writer of essays and I feel this would nt be a big problem to deal with.

Presently having 2.5 years of IT exp with a top 5 Indian MNC and outperformed in work for the past 2 years. Recos would not be a big problem since very good rapport and support from managers.

I would be writing GMAT in around 3 months from now around the start date of applications from GLIM.

Could you please provide your inputs on my chances of getting into GLIM the coming year(2010) and any feedback on how shall I improve the same would be highly appreciated. Also an if you could share an ideal GMAT score for my profile, I shall target it since I just started my preparation

I also have a plan to apply for ISB or schools abroad for the next year if at all I do not get an admit this year in GLIM, hence writing GMAT instead of CAT.

Warm Regards
Karthic

Hi Karthic,

I appreciate your keenness to be a part of this great institute. You have a good profile and definitely stand a decent chance of getting a interview call with a good GMAT score. The median score for GMAT/CAT for the Batch of 2010 was 690 and 97% respectively. With the increasing trend being observed the scores could go up this year. Please focus on getting a good Gmat score and then work on the application sincerely highlighting your achievements and definitely you should get a call.

Cheers,
Pratyush,

Given your profile and academics you stand a good chance of getting a call with a good GMAT/CAT score. The median GMAT score is 690 and CAT score is 97 % for the current batch. Hence aim for a good GMAT score and keep tracking the thread and website for important dates and notifications.I would recommend that at this time please focus on getting a good GMAT score and once the application is out work hard on other aspects of the application like essays, achievements and recommendations.

Hi Speedrider,
We prefer applicants with a minimum full time work experience of 2 years. However, special profiles with less than 2 years of experience are also considered. We evaluate such candidates on several other criteria. Internship or part time work experience is not considered and only full time work experience is considered.

Dear Speedrider,

The criteria for shortlisting the candidates include the CAT/GMAT score, academics, extra curricular activities, essays , recommendations and any other special achievement. In other words the over all profile of the candidate is evaluated before shortlisting him for the GD/PI. You have a decent academic record and should work on the other aspects of the application to compensate for the lack of experience.Hopefully you should definitely succeed in getting a call.
All the Best.

Re: Great Lakes, Chennai Admissions 2010 - 25-07-2009, 11:14 PM

Hi,

I need advice on my chances of getting into Great Lakes
A brief summary of my profile is:

Under-graduation: Bachelor of Engineering in Computers with Distinction (Highest grade) from PICT, Pune.
XII: 96.1 %, among toppers in the state, Andhra Pradesh State board (not sure though whether it matters)
GMAT: 640 (Q: 47 V: 31) AWA- 5.0/6.0
Work Exp: 2 years as of now.
Extra Curr: Good, core committee member of my company's CSR (Corporate social responsibilty) club

Job Profile: Working as a SAP-ABAP Consultant for MNC for past 2 years.

I have relatively low work experience and an average GMAT score, so how good are my chances of getting into Great Lakes.

Thanks in advance.

Vinod
