Hi buddy,
I feel that having prior work-ex for atleast 2-3 years would help a great deal while doing an MBA. This is very evident in my college(XIMB) - those who have a good amount of work-ex look at studying in a totally different perspective - they look for anything that adds value to their skills, while freshers have a tendency to choose electives that give good grades. Five years down the line, what matters most is what you learnt during your two-year stay at a b-school - not if you were a topper there or not. Also, many courses like HR, Operations Managment, Systems Management, Organizational Behaviour, Corporate Planning and Strategy-based courses make much more sense to an individual who has worked in an organization prior to pursuing an MBA. Agreed, a lot of freshers do quite well in an MBA, but a person with work-ex will appreciate an MBA much more, or atleast look at things in a different way.
So, if I were you, I'd take up a job and think of an MBA a coupla years later.
Anyways, good luck in whatever you plan to do.
