There have been so many instances of people stating that certain colleges like IIM-B,C give greater weightage to profiles (work ex, extra currics etc.) when handing out interview calls.

The CAT aplication form only asks for the impersonal no. of years of experience and not the company name or job profile. Neither can we project good extra curricular achievements.

Are we supposed to send out proofs of such add-ons with our application form even if not asked for? I can't figure out any other way of letting them know for an interview call.
IIMs cannot judge quality of work experience from the form that you send. So there is no such criteria as far as giving interview calls are concerned. Selecting candidates to appear for interviews is a completely objective process with no subjectivism involved anywhere. But yes during the interview the quality of workexperience can be judged and that is where you can take along all the certificates, letters of recommendations etc that you have, to support your case.

Re: CAT Query Center- FAQs regarding CAT 2009 online and other Exams - 26-06-2009, 01:43 AM

I'm plannin to appear for CAT2009. I wanted to know what r d chances of me getting a call from IIMs with d following background:-
(1) Xth score- 89.5%
(2) XIIth score- 89.6% (Humanities stream)
(3) Graduation- 50% (Mathematics, St. Stephen's college'09)
(4) No work experiance
(5) Good extra-curricular activities and internships

It seems I'm at a serious disadvantage according to seletion criteria put down by IIMs in their websites. Realistically speaking do I stand a chance of even being considered by them even if I get a great percentile?

You have a very very good chance, you know . If you are able to get a decent enough percentile, there is no reason that you cant be called for an interview or even get selected for that matter.

You have a good background, a good score throughout and i hope you are putting in the required effort in your preps too.

I suggest you go through this book: Download ebook - All I wanted to speak about CAT

This is sure to help you and guide you through to your destination.

Best of Luck!!

Happy Preparation!

Hi Aditya,

How do you rate CL's test series for CAT09? Please help me make a decision. TIME or CL test series?

Thanks & Regards,
Sourav.

Hi Sourav,

I am not really in a position to tell you how do i rate this years test series for either TIME or CL because:

1. I havent taken any of their tests
2. Because of the total rehash of the CAT pattern n all, the Test Series patterns will also change. And so will the level of questions.

CL has already started with its Online CAT program even before the IIMs have issued any clear guidelines regarding the pattern of questions, logistics etc. I think CAT people might just issue a prep software on the lines of GMAT. TIME has started with their test series in the paper pencil pattern and will start the online MockCATs later in August probably. Which, i think is a good thing. You will be quite through with the preparations and by then the picture on the CAT pattern will also be clearer.

Having said that, there are many other things that play an important role while selecting a test series like the cost, number of tests, proximity to the CAT level questions etc. which, i am not actually aware of, having NOT taken any of these test series this year.

Historically, TIME has more students enrolled for the test series program but their questions are VERY repetitive. and CL's papers are on a more realistic level as regards the CAT and CL is experimentative as regard the questions and patterns etc. It really does not matter which test series you take, all that matters is that you get to learn and see a variety of questions and get to practice

i dont think it is available...and even if it was available, nobody would have posted links here
pls read the first few posts of this thread before asking questions...most of ur queries get solved there only
anyway..for ur reference I am posting it here :

Q6: Can anyone help me find the E-book version of the xyz institutes’ CAT prep material??

Ans.: Psssst. These people at pagalguy.com take those silly copyrights and IPRs seriously. They strongly discourage using this forum for exchange of ANY copyrighted material . I suggest you do not ask for it here and they would be thankful to you if you don’t post any, either. .
P.S. You have better chances of winning the weekly draw in a lottery than finding a Soft Copy of any insti’s CAT prep material.
same goes for books

buddy, pls shell out a few bucks and get urself the book...i dont think it costs much...but its priceless in a way
