Urgent:Welingkars Or Nirma

Hi guys,

Need your help in deciding b/w Welingkars and Nirma.Have been gatherin info on the 2 institutes for the past couple of weeks and now finding it more difficult to choose.
Anyone here can provide deeper insight on which institute wud be a better choice.
Think it's important to consider the institute's standing 2 yrs from now.Both seem to be improving quite fast.
Haven't yet got into Welingkars{admission process still on}........but leave for Ahmedabad in a week by which time the results hopefully wud be out.

And xman...great post{Xlri v/s Fms}...but i can't just blindly pick one b/w these too.Too important a decision for me.

i think nirma is anyday better than welingkars............... i mean my friends in mumbai dont have gr8 opinions abt welingkar.......... everyone says it has gr8 infrastructure but thats all............ quality of faculty and placement not gr8......... moreover there is also backdoor enteries ............ so again you cant be sure.......... but if u wanna enjoy for two years .......... wanna watch porn on laptop then its a gr8 place otherwise go to nirma............ thats much better.......... faculty wise as well as placement wise too..........

Even i would say the same thing. Go for Nirma, cuz i feel it has a better brand name and is also a very progressive institute.Not saying that welingkars isnt one but atleast we don't see Nirma indulging in hype and stuff. Also i feel, the placements are better in Nirma, cuz i have heard that the placement figures given by Welingkars are inflated. And last but not least, you get an MBA degree if u go for Nirma.

Nirma gives a degree but IIm's give a diploma{infact most institutes give a diploma right} so i don't think that wud be a major factor.And i agree that the figures r inflated{in fact i have a frnd studying in welingkars who told me this}.But i am led to believe that quite a few institutes do inflate avg sal figures.Not saying Nirma does.

We are comparing two institutes which fall in the same category here...that way the MBA factor is of some importance.Wotever said and done even today in india and all over the world an MBA degree carries more weight than a diploma unless of course it is the from the IIM's or better institutes like FMS,MDI,XIMB etc etc...

can i also post one of my queries here in this thread too . i need to choose between LBSIM Delhi and Welingkars ( not admitted as yet ) . the final result of welingkars is expected in july and by that time my classes in LBSIM will start . what d u say people is it worth it ???

No way man...LBSIM is one of those institutes which excel in placements. and the kind of spark which people of LBSIM has, believe me it is a place worth going even if u have welingkars converted.........Welingkars has nothing except infrastructutre and LBSIM has all the things except infrastructure.

Also the kind of group u will have at LBSIM will be much more better than what u will have at welingkars..........and i belive that on the completion of this sentence u would have decided in favour of LBSIM

yeah thats very true that infra at LBSIM is almost embarassing ...... but at the end of the road howsoever i may deny it .... its the placements that counts .
i had this feeling that b schools in mumbai somehow are better than in delhi and was always fascinated with them . cleared nmims written but failed miserably in the interview .. had a great gd and interview in somaiya + decent cat score ( no work ex though and finished grad in 2003) .... so didn't find myself in the selected list of somaiaya too ....... now its welingkar ?????????

acc to me lbs is a quite decent institute with gr8 placemnt......... moreover the way they teach is quite gr8...........i have heard that they make groups of students which help students organisational skills............ moreover there is a placement cell which is managed by students............ welingkars is also nice............. but i feel it score over lbs only in infrastructure............ but its your decison mate..............

yeah LBS is ok , but this task orientation and representation in the placement activity is a trademark of many instis . Do u have any other info or an alumni of LBS . I also chucked NIT Trichy MBA for LBSIM PGPM so I am doubly worried and confused .
