got into a b-school and tryin' for CAT again !!!

i got into iit-b (SJMSOM) - i'm thinking abt giving the CAT again - not too sure abt it tho' - and no, I'm not asking whether u think I'm mad or not - all i'm asking is do my chances of getting in to an IIM if i do happen to give the CAT worsen ?

One basic question:

Are you planning to join SJS now and give CAT again? or you're skipping it this year and give CAT ?

If its the former, I guess you'll have a real hard time explaning your predicament to the interviewers. If its the latter, you are square one. Your preps and perseverance would decide it, as you already know.

But then, I thought the percentage foriegn placements in SOM beats some of the IIMs hands down. And, you get the IIT tag name, which is not a bad one. Plus, I really don't think the top-10 B-schools are very different in terms of the avg sals, openings and stuff like that.
Whats your real reason for IIMs alone ?

I too have secured admission in a bschool this year and will be trying for CAT 04 for IIm's.Would like to know whether IIm's in particular look at this a as negative point even assuming one can provide a reasonable explanation for takin admission and tryin again.Guess it depends frm institute to institute also.Anyone in an IIM can shed more light on this.

like i said - rite now since i haven't started my course yet, i have ideas abt writing CAT again. I may drop that idea some where down the line. The point being that iit-b is damn good and there are no arguments abt that - it's just that systems is their strong point - I'm more interested in finance. And from what i hear, it isn't all that good in finance. Again, it's what i heard from others.has anyone else heard otherwise ? Maybe once I get in, things may change - it has less to the institute per se and more to do with the branch i wanna be in

I dont you are the only one planning to do this. Ive heard a lot of people who try for a bscool all though they studying in one.

Ive got admission in NM , but im still going to give CAT again, in a last ditch attempt at the IIM's. Although i have been warned that its going to be hell.

...Finance in SJMSOM....I believe is pretty good...though I don't have the details with me...one of my friends finished his MBA from IIT-B in Finance thsi year..........and they had the best Placements...GE Cap coming quite early...and avg sal. for finance doing very well...my friend got a package of 7.5 lacs p.a...

So thats for the placement and salary bit...though I'm not sure about the other criterias you consider in choosing a B-School....

no Idea about Faculty,Infrastructure etc...
