First of all, a big THANK YOU to Chuck, Vivek, Deval Ma'am and the others who generously shared their experiences

Was really tensed as I was on the merit list and therefore couldn't post earlier. So here goes...

I have a communications background with 18 months of exp in online advertising and 5 months as an Admin Associate both at Google. Flew in a day earlier and stayed at Ginger hotel. Damn neat place with excellent rooms and service.. and the best part.. light on the pocket.. another TATA product!

Sadly, before I took the flight to A'bad I had a nasty fall and almost sprained my back and neck. Was in terrible pain (inspite of pain killers) even on 19th and could hardly move. Just had good dinner and rested for D day.

Once we got to MICA campus, we looked around a bit (beautiful green campus), registered ourselves and our panels were called out. I was in panel 2. We all seemed a little nervous and walked towards our designated area.. which was under a tree . Saw heaps of rubbish around and we were supposed to make a public poark with it. Much to everyone's amazement, the GE was super fun and chilled out. I thought I did pretty well and had gotten myself noticed. Once it was over, we were waiting for PIs to happen..

My PI happened post lunch and Deval Ma'am was in my panel along with two other men.. one middle-aged and one older than him..

D - Deval Ma'am M - Middle aged man O - Old man lol

D- Hi Nilisha, Please sit down
N - Hello Ma'am.. looked at the other two said hello and sat down
D - I am Deval and these are blah and blah (dont remember their names)
N - Oh so you are Deval Ma'am .. The other looking at each other.. I explained that we had interacted on PG earlier
O - Tell me 2 things about her..
N - Pretty staright-forward in answering questions and helpful
O - I didn't ask you to praise her..
N - Perpelexed.. No, Sir.. I am not praising her.. I said what came to mind first..
M - What is your current job role at Google
N - Explained everything.. all of them were nodding
O - Tell me about one other Google product
N - Explained Google Maps to them .. again all nodding
O - So how is it used in GPS..
N - Totally confused.. Deval Ma'am interrupted saying that is Global Positioning System and is different from Maps. PHEW!
D - Who established the first Google office in India.. Who are the founders?
N - Answered both..
D - Ok.. so you do know about Google..
N - Smiling.. yes ma'am..
D - Since you've mentioned bad body odour as your dislike.. how will you promote a deo
N - Used all the advertising terminology and concepts I knew.. hehe.. explained what I'd do.. they seemed convinced that I knew what I was talking about..
M - Who are you going to vote for in the coming elections and why
N - Have thought about Sir and will go ahead with blah blah for blah blah reasons.. had a long chat about it but it ended well..
D - Thats all from us.. do you any questions for us...
N - Asked them 2 questions and the 2nd one sparked off a little debate.. the question was 'One thing I admire about the work culture at Google is that they try to completely remove any personal bias at all levels of decidion making... do you'll follow something similar during PIs?
M - Definitely we try to judge the candidate by his abilities and not opinions per se..
O - We incorporate good things from MNCs and leave the rest (this answer left me confused but decided to leave it at that)
N - Ok Sir.. Thanks.
D - Thanks, Nilisha.. You can leave now..

All in all I thought the day was pretty smooth for me.. was a little disappointed when I didnt get a spot offer.. but who cares as long you are in

Only advice I can give is to be yourself.. that will definitely work in your favor

From what I have read from Orkut and other PG threads.. they move quite a bit.. But guess you will have to wait for quite a while (atleast until Apr 20) We'll start a google spreadsheet in a couple of days which will give us an idea abt the movement

9th on the waitlist... umm.. mst say a decent chance.. but ofcrse a lot depends on others...
think of it yourself...there could be atleast 9 people who would either get another call, re think their decision, take the CAT again next year, not leave their job, etc...

not jst trying to get your hopes high, but just putting things in perspective...hang in there...

But now, I have a big problem...
Can Deval Mam or any senior help me out with it?

Actually, I have my 6th sem BBM board exams (Bangalore University) from the last week of May to the first week of June. The exact timetable has not yet been announced. It is highly impossible for me to attend the 1 month orientation classes. But I really really dont want to miss out on the vital information that would be given that time....

Im sure there must be a few more students who are in the same situation. Is it possible for MICA to put up an official link on its website and gather details of the number of students who would genuinely not be able to attend the classes?

And can they try to arrange short crash classes for such students later??

Please also let me know about the documents that we need to submit to get an official approval from MICA for our absence from the Orientation classes...
