GDPI Experience at NITIE
D Day : March 20, 2009

I am from Mumbai itself. When I came to know that I have got Call from NITIE I was very much exulted. I was not able to keep my excitement and thought to give a visit to NITIE campus before scheduled time.
I went there in the morning at 7 AM on Friday D Day. I was totally amazed with the tranquility NITIE preserves in its campus. I realized that though it is in Mumbai ,is still not in Mumbai. Yet so near yet so far. So peaceful and engulfed in soothing lush greenery which will make any body fall in love for it. It preserves nature at its best. Adding more to it is flanked by two lakes which further add to its beauty with its calm, serene picturesque view.
Now after roaming round the Campus I happen to see MDP hostel. Wow!!! To my surprise I think all rooms has AC. Guys must be lucky who are leaving in this hostel. I never expected AC in the hostel. All these things were enthusing me from inside to give my best shot here
Well its was already 8 AM now and I was supposed to report to Reception at auditorium so I parked my bike in front of the Institute building and went to the reception. There I saw a mid aged lady ( perhaps some academic lady) and few senior sitting with list. She asked me for my call letter. I showed them that then they directed me to go inside auditorium. Opps that was huge having sitting capacity of 200 and air conditioned too. Hurrah got a cool place to relax now. I was been offered a sit in second row from first.
Seniors were giving presentation about nitie and the three courses IM,ITM and ISEM. The presentation was quit good got a rough idea what one will have to study if got a chance here at NITIE..thanks to the seniors who worked hard to get the gist before us.
Senior were very helping and was making us feel relaxed though little anxiety was still there. Perhaps because of the D day pressure.
After completion of presentation at about 8:30 AM we were being called for our document verification group by group. I went to syndicate 1 with group mates. There we had our documents verified and they took Xerox of only those certificates which they do not have. (They had certificate which one have sent along with the application form)
If one has no documents they have to sign an undertaking stating that they will bring the document at the time of joining.
Once the verification done. We have been given GD Id to each member in the team.in my team it was total of 9 guys. 1 Girl and 8 boy.
GD Details :
Before entering the GD hall a senior gave us advise of not making fish market. Heart has already started to pound heavily. We all entered the room.
GD panel : 4 members
Guideline given :
1. 2 min for thinking over the topic + 15 min for discussion + 3 min for conclusion. Any one can do that.
2. Paper / Pencil was given to jot down the thoughts.
Sitting Arrangement : Linear fashion ,a bit curved. Was a bit hard to face each other. Anyway took my sheet.
Topic: India has large Population base but still lacks in knowledge power.
M1: Called up the Girl in our group and asked her to choose the topic and read it loudly and clearly before the group twice. She picked the topic and read before us. She was very fast in reading the topic

GD was good as every body chipped in except one to whom I tried giving chance requesting others to let him. I took the opportunity to start and conclude and also entered GD 3-4 times in between. GD group was discussing in two dimensions. Some guys tried to give it other dimension but majority stick to Illiteracy part of the topic. I concluded at the end.Gave moral funda at the end.
Over all GD was satisfactory no fish market. Every body got chance to speak.
Bell rang and we all been asked to throw our paper in the bin.
PI experience:
After the GD we all moved back to Auditorium and waited for our turn. At 4 :00 PM I got my call from Panel 3. This panel has 5 faculty members. Sitting arrangement was a bit scary. Felt like a scape goat out there. But when I entered room inside tempo was pretty cool and relaxing. Panel laughing and cheering.
Me: may I come in sir
P1: Yes Yes
Me: Greeting to every body
P1: take your sit
Me: thank you sir.
P1: you must be tired by now (he said as it was 4PM)
Me: no sir I am OK.
P2: but we all are?
Me: puzzled do not know what to say ..Gave a smile
P1: you are experienced right?
Me: yes sir
P2: Tell me about yourself
Me : I started but P1 interrupted in between
P1: tell me specifically about family background ,schooling,final year project and work related projects.
Me : told every thing but when came to final year project I actually have forgotten what I have done but managed it some how and brought the topic to my work related projects.
P3: seemingly not very happy with what I said about final year project allowed me to tell me about the projects I have done in my company.
Me : Gave 3 Min lecture on it . Board looked convinced. I was happy now and more comfortable now.
P4 : tell me what are your hobbies
Me : Reading , Playing keyboard and keeping my self fit.
P4: Keeping your self fit , It cannot be a hobby . Every one does that.
Me : no sir , I go to Gym regularly and do not miss any of the session.
P1,P2,P3( in between them self )they said ..yah guys these days have this hobby as well.
Me : relaxed chalo board looked convinced
. Board smiled I joined them too..
P1: asked my salary and then asked why I want to leave my job when I am earning good.
Me : This was the question I was waiting for …gave them a detailed Gyan showing my conviction towards doing it and how it will help me in broadening my career perspective.(2 min). Board looked convinced.
P2: Why consulting any specific reason ?
Me : I said it will be more functional and more towards business side rather than technical and I will be able to use my experience here. Told about the type of consulting I am interested in. They looked convinced.
P1: you are computer engineer. So which subjects do have read.
Me: Data stuctures, DBMS , Operating system,
P1 : only three
Me : no sir
these are subjects which I was most interested in.
P1 : Ok tell me what is data structure.
Me : gave the gyan .
P1: asked me btree, Linked list, array and asked me which one is preferred in this situation.
Me : answered
P2: asked me about sorting and various types of it and worst and best time in each case.
Me: answered
P2: what is the least and worst time for linear search
Me : sir 1 and n where n is the number nodes.
P2: what is average time in linear search.
Me : I was not sure ..so said sir it will be in between 1 and n . they laughed on it ..sir I am not very sure about it.
P4: how many calls do you have.
Me: answered .
P2: pointed that I was saying “Yah sir “ instead of “Yes sir”. Other panel members said its Ok. but he is still pointed out . He was in light mood though just pulling my leg
Me: Sorry sir. Defended myself saying that I was two years in UK and my accent is now a bit mixed up. I will rectify it sir (Very earnestly).
Board laughed and said not a problem and you can go know. Best of luck
Me : thanked and left the room.
I think PI was quite OK mainly stressing over final year project and work ex.
I am keeping my fingers crossed and wishing all the very best to all those who are vying for NITIE.
