hi posting after a long time.
The GD topic was
Advertising today:Increasing product value and decreasing human value .
Really didnt know what to say about this.
So waited for someone else to light the fire.
There was a guy who started with a 3 value paradign ,the usual TIME gimmick of Social political Economic.
Then there was this other guy who followed with his own example.and then a female followed .All 3 spoke with a lot of poise.All people in GD were good speakers.U could say that we had come for NITIE.
I added a lot of points but was finding it difficult to communicate that day.My points were good but i was lacking the elegance , that day.plus getting noticed among such good speakers WAS GOING TO BE A task.
The FMS GD debacle last year had really made a fighter out of me and i was inadvertently cutting others points .I was compelled to do so as i felt the baton was being passed really fast among the 4-5 good speakers.
At the end of the GD my peers actually came upto me and remarked that i had taken a lot of airtime and was not letting others speak.This actually left me feeling in a tizzy.

The interview followed after an hour or so..
I threw myself out of my comfort zone into the ring to find a panel of 6 really experienced SME's .They all looked old and wise.
The power centre of the panel was an old lady who asked me to introduce myself.
This was followed by an old gentleman who started grilling me over my final year project.
What was your contribution to the project?
Then a few technical DB questions:
What is RDBMS?
What is foreign key?
What is process marketing?
What is the business purpose of it?

Then the gentlemen passed the control over back to the Lady.
The lady asked me what I was planning to do after my MBA?
What i expected out of this MBA program?

Then the control was passed over to a slighter younger but middle aged prof in comparison who asked me the effect of the new Barrack Obama Legislation on Software companies like Infosys?

After he was done with me,the lady asked me how many calls i had ?
Nitie and IMT gz.
Perhaps i had done so well that the panel out of curiosity asked me this,or they thought i was too stressed by the pressure to convert the call,or my performance was too bad.
The interview laster for 15 mints,I am not sure but the IMPACT guy standing outside told me this.
I wanna know how many of the guys who had been asked such a question think done mediocre , or how many of the guys who think they had done mediocrely been asked this question.

I had my process for PGDIM on 19th.

Reached NITIE a day before.The campus is awesome.First they alloted a room at hostel1/2 at grnd floor which was kind of bad.So decided to stay at MDP hostel which has very good rooms with all facilities.The Vihar Lake is beautiful and the campus is like a wild life sanctuary with a serene atmosphere
The placements have been really good in these times of recession with only about 5 students yet to be placed and average package of about 9.Cadbury,P&G,Johnson &Johnson,Axis bank etc have visited....Liked mess food a lot

GD:
Topic: India has large population but less knowledge.
Number of Ppl present 10

Brief Snapshot of Discussion: 2 min to think.15 to discuss and 2 for summary
It was a fish market totally.No one letting anyone to speak.So much so that the panel had to stop us in between and asked us to tone down and pointed at one person who was the architect of the fish market,saying,especially you.....I contributed but in such a scenario I think I should have kept quite.A guy who did not speak at all was asked to summarize and he stole the show by summarizing really really well.So I can safely say that my GD went bad and with it the chances becoming lesser as a senior told that it has around 30-35% weightage.

Got my act together a bit for the interview as was told that it had around 40-45% weightage and is decisive.

Interview -There were 6 people in the panel.So will refer them with just P

Me : Entered and wished.

P : Tell me something about yourself.(Was hoping for this )
Me : I started,kept on speaking and speaking about NCC camps,Debate n Declamation prizes then work in college clubs....Acads kept in balance along with...my interests in cricket,reading,discussions etc etc...long intro.

P : You completed engg in 2008...no work ex?
Me : Was placed in Accenture and Tech M but joining did not come becoz of recession.Meanwhile I have worked as a manager in the construction of our house. Father posted outside so all responsibility on me......

P: Tell me about your final year project
Me : Told..Software for college..my role....etc

P : Did you use normalization?
Me : Err..Yes in removing redundant rows...(Who thinks about theory)

P : How many forms of normalization exists?
Me : Mainly 1nf,2nf and 3nf(Had studied a bit about them)

P : Explain all of them.
Me : Told about 1nf,fumbled on 2nf,then said can I think for a min about 3nf.They said yes...I tried to explain by giving an example..panel making faces(Bachche ki jaan loge?)

P : What subject did you like in engg?
Me : Object oriented programming

P : What is object model?
Me : As in what are you asking...polymorphism etc?

P : You studied OOPS and you dont even know an object model?what did they teach you?
Me : Mam,I studied C++ and java(Later I realized mayb shud have talked about classes and objects...or wat.Tell me if you know)

P : okay leave it.tell me the syntax of adding two nos in c++
Me :Told..with example

P : Have you read any management related book?
Me : I have read Freakonomics

P : Author and tell more about it...
Me : Felt it was a big chance and explained the philosphy of relating numbers with real life with examples..talked for a long time...

I finish and there is a silence.No one sayin a word

P : Why MBA?
Me : Usual gyan..in between I said that completing my education in one go will help my career....

P : But the industry thinks otherwise(They need people with work ex)
Me : Sir ,I believe I have reached that maturity level bcoz of my exposure to Ncc..stayin as pg..good communication skills.analytical skills..lot many activities (I dont know kya kya bol diya)

P : What is your height?
Me : 6 ft (Why wud they ask that!)

P : We are done.

It was a long interview....I think they were trying to create stress,but what ever I spoke..did it confidently.I have a postive vibe about it finally...
But with no work ex,a fish market GD,and less %ile..I am keeping no hopes at all........

Asked to choose the topic. Chose the middle one.
Topic: Do we need more enterpreneurs than managers?
The distribution was (2+15+2).

Everyone spoke well. I entered second and made 4-5 entries.
Everyone was allowing others to speak (for a change).....
Thought it was a decent GD though we were running out of points towards the end...(was desperately waiting for the bell to ring)...
Infact one of the prof mistakenly rang the bell early and everybody stopped...only to be asked to continue.....

That was the GD before the lunch...So at least the lunch at the 1-2 canteen was slightly peaceful.....

Saw Andaz Apna Apna, Inside Man aand Pushpak(partly) in the audi while waiting for the turn to come...Then the quiz came...and brought with it the funniest moment of the day....
One of the ques was: What is the oldest mint in India?
One of the guys: POLO!!!
Quizmaster: What??
One of the adjoining guys: Sir, he said polo, the mint with the hole!!!

M: Was ready for it....Gave a long one....Wasn't interrupted....

M: Gave it....
P3: Whats a datawarehouse and whats a datamart?
M: Said it...
P4: Difference between DW and database?
M: Gave one point, fumbled slighly on the others....
P4: Pointed one diff out, said another...
P3: (to P4)He already said it....
P3: Final year project...A few related questions...
M: Answered convincingly...
P5: How are u using ur Electrical(BE discipline) knowledge in IT(default)?
M: Gave a unconvincing answer...
P5: Then why mba now?
M: Gave some why mba gyaan....
P5: Have u read any management books?
M: Nope....only magazines..
P5: What magazine..
M: gave it....

No ques on hobbies...Dont know what to make out of this PI....
One problem was when I was speaking 2-3 profs started chatting among themselves making the next ques barely audible....
Had to ask for a repeat...1-2 times.....


P.S. The seniors were really helpful and were there throughout to guide us...Kudos to them....Hopefully will b there nxt yr.....

first assembled in audi for brief presentaion about course in NITIE

then informal Q&A sessions with seniors

simultaneously groups were called for GD

first document verification by sarkari babus ..a humble request if it can be done for final selected candidates ,,it will save a lot of their time(who cares about out time BTW)

Then called for GD

Panel-4 members
pattern-2 minutes to think ,15 minutes discussion,2-conclusion

one of us went to pick topics from 3 topics

Topic-Management education- a choice or obligation?
Snap shot-over all average gd,2-3 times fish market ,but every one did their part

Now waited for 30 minutes for PI

Was an easy topic and was able to make 7-8 entries with good content.We performed well as a grp giving chance to those who were not participating enough and also concluded well.

For PI I had to wait for a while....till the time i interacted with those who were done with it.Most Qs were asked on Final Yr proj and workex....so i was happy as i didnt want to b asked on acads.

I had my GD/PI process on 18 March. The process was very well organised, and I must say NITIE is a great college. Definitely one of the best. The campus is simply awesome and the view from the campus even more so. I have heard that results are normally announced within a week of the last date of GD/PI process. Seniors, any updates will be really helpful...

GD/PI date-originally on 17th, but had it rescheduled to 19th

The process of the day started at 8 am. Call letters were verified and all of us were led into an auditorium. Initial presentation given on the college and the course, for about 15-20 mins. Then people started being called as per their group no. Asked and came to know that the rescheduled candidates would have their process at the end of the day . anywyz, they started 'andaz apna apna' in the auditorium , so still it wasnt bad. Had a quiz also in between, alongwith a q n a session with the students of the institute, so time still went by fast.
After lunch, came the document verification process. At about 3:15 we were led for the GD.

Topic: CSR is just an eyewash (or something like that)
Snapshot: Nobody had many points to make, so it was a very calm GD. everyone just kept on giving various examples. Entered 5-6 times, so happy with my contribution.

My interview was amongst the last ones in my panel. Started at 5:30.
Before my PI, tea and snacks were sent to the panel inside.

A: Michael Carrick. (surprised look all around. think i should've explained my answer)

A: blah blah, organised quizzes, now supervising them...blah blah....
P: final year project?
A: gave the answer
P: what are its applications
A: fumbled a bit here, but eventually gave the answer, seemed happy with that.
P: so you play football also?
A: used to play as defender, don't these days.
P: so you committed fouls also? (devilish smiles from them )
A: no sir, seedha saadha bachcha hun
P: so no yellow and red cards? (laughter from them)
A: just played casually with friends
P: oh, then you must have been committing fouls? (laughter again)

P: thats it, thank you.

EDIT: forgot these questions. Was asked about which other calls I had, and why I had changed my date of the process(mid semester examinations).

Don't know what to take from the interview. Not much tech, no 'why mba' and similar questions. Let's hope for the best.

PS: to the nitie seniors: Really really nice interacting with you. one of the best processes I have been to. the movies were a great idea :-)

kindly do not try to read much into the interview. you probably feel that you had a bad interview cause either it was too short or you could not answer some questions or the panel was pulling your leg et al...it never works that way...

abt the results...going by the track record, we expect them to be out in the next week...
