I had my GD/PI at BIM Campus y'dat at 2.00 pm slot...
posting it in detail for other puys..

Took a bus from trichy main bus stand(very near to railway station) to Thanjavur at 12.30 and reahed B.H.E.L training centyre at around 1.00 pm.Took an auto to BIM which cost 60 (auto waalas in tamilnadu as a whole sucks!!!) and was there by 1.30 pm...there were 3 ladies who were assigned the task of ceritificate verification.they wud cal out ur names n check ur degree marksheets (all semesters original)..nothing else...

our batch had 34 ppl and our gd group contained 10 ppl...

in the gd, we wud be given a topic, 2 mins to tink over n 20 mins for discussion (dependig on the number of ppl...average of 2 min/ppl).
the topic was an abstarct one : """ONLY QUESTIONS..NO DOUBTS!! """

the discussion was pretty good but we didnt have much to discuss...i chipped in with some scenarios --(education system in india where the emphasis is on answering the questions on question papers and not clearing doubts/understanding concepts)..etc...group discussed the difference of doubts and questions and wat can be done to solve them..it was an ok one..all ppl participated..after the gd we are given a sheet of paper to write a summary (time lim:5 mins).

then we were taken back to the room and my verificaion was held..

PI came in another 10 mins...it lasted for only 5 minutes..

1)tell me about yourself
2)my interests (old i read business journals)
3)explain the latest article read ( explained about subiksha downfall i read a week back)
4)which other calls
5)wat u know about bim
6)why u failed in electrical lab in engg (i had a backpaper in 4th sem)

that was all...the seniors are very helpful n all were down to earth..the placement scenario is excellent as bim has a strong alumni base and very less strenth of 120..so they fnd it easy to place most of the students..

imp note---this time around the percentile requirement reduced to 91 because they are calling around 1400 ppl for the 120 seats where as last year when the cut was 95, they called only around 600..so its a good news that they r looking for ppl who are not just cat crackers, but have an overall good profile!!!..........

only worry is..its toooo hot at trichy n the campus is very far from trichy town..but i guess all's fine in love and business

1)What was the attire worn predominantly by guys?

2)I don't have my original cat scorecard,I just have the printout from the IIM website.Will that cause any problem during "Original Certificates verification"??

Hi friend,
Not just predominantly, instead 100 percent guys in my batch were wearing formals. Either plain white or a light shaded shirt in combination with generally black trousers. Formal black shoes. A decent and sober tie. As for your cat score card.. If you don't have original then that is sure to cause troubles for you but you have to take chance.. . You don't have any other option.

Hi Puys....
Sorry for the delay in posting. I had my GD/PI in the post lunch session on 14th March, @ BIM Campus. You can get into the ordinary buses to Tanjore, from Trichy Central Bus Stand, and the 15 kms (approx) journey upto BHEL Training centre bus stop will cost you Rs 5.50/-
The campus is indeed isolated from this bus stop. We need to catch an auto to reach the campus which will cost you 70 bucks.
The campus is green and seems to be vast, located within the BHEL compound. My slot was at 2o pm, and i managed to reach there by 1:20 pm. There were 34 students in our session, mostly from Kerala
The three processes going on were
Verification
GD
PI

Ten of us were called for GD and the topic we had was "Only questions, No doubts" :crazyeye:
The moderator gave us the topic without looking into the paper and we were given 2 mins to note down the points. Since I was close to the mods and I could understand Tamil, I heard from their discussion that he accidently said it wrong and the topic was supposed to be "Only doubts, No questions"
We had 20 mins to discuss.

Ten of us cooked up as good as each can and we stopped by 17 mins and the mods said we still had time. So we restarted the discussion and stopped exactly at the 20th minute. For the next 5 mins we were asked to write a summary or a report on the Gd and we had to stop exactly after the 5th minute.

We were taken back to the main hall, and the interview sessions started for our batch.

There were two prof in my panel, both seemed to be much experienced.
I was asked to explain briefly about myself.
They asked me why I had low marks and arrears in graduation.
Aksed me to recollect the sub topics I had in my Optimization Techniques and Industrial management papers.
Asked my ambition.
Why did I take B Tech CSE?
Asked my hobbies.
Aksed why i switched jobs.
Then some general questions.

States in NE
Home, external affairs and defence ministers

It lasted for about 10 minutes.
After the interview I had my verification.
Its compulsory that you should bring your sem wise mark list for grads.
They were counting the no of attempts to clear the arrears too.

Once these processes were over, they had arranged a cab and dropped me back at the BHEL training centre bus stop.

First they called it the MBC batch (all were MBCs) so that they can find relative performance.Then why call me in this batch(i asked for a diff slot from my orig slot on 13 th).Now,i am not sure whether i ve done the right thing



GD:The process was the same.Topic:Should IPL be banned.Pretty good one to discuss,but it was a pity that the GD turned out to be so ineffective that it was more like a fidh market GD with no one listening others points seriously and it was without direction.There were some aggressive guys and let me hope that the entire gd group is not affected because of them.

PI:To my surprise ,it lasted for only 10-15 minutes.This was the case for almost everyone with almost same type of questions for everyone.I am not sure how they find out abt the candidate in this limited time.
It was as follows.There were two people,one was questioning,other was just listening most of the time...

Me:Good morming sir,
Prof:yes,what type of work do you do?
Me:high level design to code
Prof:why u people r coming to do mba
Me:i told i want to be a business analyst
Prof:everyone tells like this,u already lost ur career by going to IT after
doing electronics in B.E.
ME:learnt c,c++ in college tried to justify my role was related to what i studied.
but he doesnt convince
Prof:dont bluff,even a civil engineer can do what u do
ME:there is difference in quality,efficiency
Profk,i dont want to argue..so tell about TQM,POM u learnt in college
ME:(what the hell,i just studied them each for 2 evenings)told abt quality in req phase leads to lss defects in testing..blah blah
Prof:again not convinced..told that is product quality
ME:(is it so)..i surrendered telling him the truth
Prof:came to cricket..abt IPL ur views
ME:(oh! in my court finally)gave a speech on T20 vs Test
(Prof seems satisfied for the only time)
Prof:some GK questions

To the seniors and management: I am not happy with the way the GD and PI went.Some things could ve been better

why shortlist 1500 and interview them for nameshake ,instead shortlist few and select from them( i dont beleive u can get the right people from in 10 min)

with fingers crossed after giving my best i can and not 100% satisfied with the procedure thay follow,eagerly waiting for the day of results

Hi,

The GD had 10 people because you have to be competitive. In real world business you will competing with thousands of people, so get used to it. And for your next question, of course speaking to a person for ten min does n't help much to judge him, but with his profile and achievements in hand its more than enough to judge. All the best !

we sat on a rectangular table with 3 moderators on 1 edge. we were give a badge number each and a seat according to that.
our topic was BUILDING INDIA.
we were given 2 mints to think.
it was a very very very nice gd. everyone participated well. no one was cutting others point. noone tryied to pull other down. everyone was listening to the other. many ideas came forward. and the gd came to an end after 20 mints.
now we had to summerise the gd in a paragraph in a page given to us. we did it.
now we headed to the hall and waited there for our interview calls and it came pretty soon.
