Re: [2009-2011]IIM Shillong GD/PI Experiences - 16-04-2009, 11:50 AM

Hi fellow puys,

I had my IIMS interview on 10th April at IIMB campus in the 9AM slot. I had reached well before time around 8AM. A person came around 8:45AM and announced the groups that we were split into. Out of supposedly 24 students, only 13 turned up. We had been divided into 6 and 7 students each. I was in the 6-persons group. Our group was called in around 9AM and asked to site against our numbers. Below is a gist of what transpired on that day.

PROFILE:

Acads:
X - 82.3%
XII - 97.6%
Undergrad Major - GPA/%age - ECE/8.93

Work-Ex:
NIL/Sector - almost close to 3 years in the automation industry

CAT %ile:
DI - 78%ile
Quant - 91%ile
Verbal - 99%ile
Aggregate - 98.37%ile

Extra curricular/ Hobbies/Interests(if you have mentioned them)
Reading fictional novels, playing the guitar and working out in the gym

CASE/GD :
Topic: An employee at the bank named Joe who has an experience of 8 years and performing the role of an executive also does counselling for his fellow employees. Over time he is known to be a very good counsellor and people started coming to him for advice. One another employee, Frank who has an experience of 12 years in the bank and is a supervisor goes to Joe. He tells Joe that he is very troubled at times thinking about his past and that he was convicted for robbery and had escaped the prison six months before his sentence expired. Joe complains to the local police and they arrest Frank. Hearing this the vice-president is enraged and fires Joe. Joe is asking to be reinstated since he cannot be expected to be a priest and keep everything to himself. What should the vice-president do?

Number of Ppl present: 6

Brief Snapshot of Discussion:
The discussion went very peaceful, everyone got their turn to put in their points. I entered the discussion 5-6 times and made some good contributions. We completed much before our time was up and concluded ourselves.
Other Salient Details: A summary of the GD was asked to be written on the backside of our interview form and we were given 5 mins for the same. Although they got it back within 4 mins, i had time to complete my summary.

Re: [2009-2011]IIM Shillong GD/PI Experiences - 19-04-2009, 02:36 AM

had my interview on 10 April 9'o clock at IIM B.

PROFILE:

Acads:
X 86.8
XII 91.8 (both ICSE)
Undergrad Major - BTECH IT - 8.97 CGPA

Work-Ex:
nil

CAT %ile: 89

Extra curricular/ Hobbies/Interests - sports like lawn tennis...

CASE/GD :
Number of Ppl present : 7 (around 13 ppl were present out of 24 i guess totally in the morning batch. quite a few absentees )
Time: 5 min to read the case, 15 min to discuss and 5 min for a written summary.
Case was very stragiht forward. John is working as a Personnel executive in a company and has also become a counsellor for the employees. They confide in him completely. One day, Frank comes to him and tells him that he is an ex convict and that he did not complete his sentence but escaped from prison 20 yrs ago. He is very disturbed by this fact. John promptly tells the police and Frank is arrested. The Executive Vice President of the company fires John for breach of worker's trust. John appeals to the President saying he was going by company policy of not recruiting ex convicts. What should the president do?

We had a good gd, ran out of points in last few min and concluded very amicably. The panel gave us 5 min to write a summary. very peaceful and friendly. everyone got their turn to speak.I chipped in 3 times.
