The GE/PI Process

Here we go.. This year we have called everyone in one batch as it is easy to address all at one time and answer their queries and get them familiar with the institute.

The day's process involves: Registration, familiarization with campus, address of the director, GE, PI.

If your parents/guardians wish to accompany you, they are most welcome.

A team of current MICA students will be there to support you.

GE - Group Exercise is normally done in a group of 8 to 10 students. You are given a topic with six to eight options and you need to priorities those according to your understanding and reasoning. The floor is then open for discussion and as a group you need to try and come to consensus on top 3 options. Topics are contemporary from society, business etc.

Personal Interview is to get to know you better as an individual and see your fit for MICA. Knowledge of your own self, what you have done so far will help.

Like last year, MICA will be giving spot offers. These are announced at the end of the day, hence the process gets over at 8pm.

Some general tips:

MICA is about 25km from Ahmedabad railway station and 30 km from airport. So please plan your travel time accordingly.

MICA is located in a village called Shela (not Sola, not Shilaj) off Sarkhej-Sanand Highway. Turn right from Telav village to reach MICA.

Climate... It is already HOT here with max temp going up to 36 degree centigrade. So guys, girls, avoid wearing blazers/suits. Wear comfortable formals. You have a day long process.

MICA will provide lunch, tea, coffee. We have two well stocked canteens for rest of your food and beverage needs.

MICA is 'No smoking' campus.

What else do you need to know??

yay.. i got a call from MICA for GE/PI on 18th.

do you think i could make it in and out of ahmedabad in a day? i'll be coming from mumbai, as i have my NITIE interview on 17th. was planning to catch an overnight bus and reach the venue directly. what say?

i know it's gonna be kinda hectic, but that's okay. :angel:

It will be good if you can take a train like Lokshakti which reaches Ahmedabad by 4.30am...bus is a bit tricky!

Hi Deval,
Thanks a lot for being a part of this discussion. Could you please clarify whether the DD is mandatory or if given an on the spot offer, it can be submitted at a later day?

I got my Mica GE/PI on 19th. Mam, could you please throw some more light on the group exercise thing?

Also, what is this spot offer process? Does that mean there won't be a separate list of final shortlisted candidates?

My questions might sound a bit dumb......but m confused rite now....so plz help

And mam also,
What about the people who dont get spot offers? How long is it going to take for the final list to come out(i.e for those who get selected but not given spot offer)?
How many people get spot offers and how many in the second round???
What's the criteria for the same as there cant be a cut-off from day 1???

e.g. How do you know if the first guy deserves a spot offer or for the case, these many people on Day 1 deserve spot offers???I am saying this because there may b 10 gud ppl on day 1 and 50 on day 2.But if you are evaluating day-wise which I think is the case, you may lose out on some deserving candidates....
Are they lookin for some kind of spark some person ???
I know this query looks a little stupid but still....

Hi

DD is not mandatory. You will be given a time frame within which to make up your mind and inform MICA and pay the first installment of the fees.

hey congrats to all call getters

. Well my MICA dream remained a dream . but neverthless I just wanted an insight as to what did MICA want . Was it the essay , the word associations , etc . Would be happy if the call getters share the number of attempts per section , CAT score as well as the essay part of it . This will help future aspirants of MICA as well as people who would try again for it next year . Thanks in adv .

Spot Offer and all that...

Last year Chuck had said that Spot Offer almost sounds like an ad for an acne cream. LOL.

OK...Spot offer is not literally that, as in, 'Spot Offer'. It is 'at the end of the day' offer.

GE happens. Then PI happens. Each panel of three members evaluates candidates for PI. Then sees their GE scores. If a candidate has got 4 or 5 out of FIVE in all criteria for GE and all criteria for PI as marked separately and independently by all panel members and is 'Highly recommended', by all three members, the person gets a 'Spot offer' at the end of the day. That is, after the results of all three panels and all members of each panel are compiled.

Also, those who fall under 'Not recommended' are informed on that day itself.

Those who fall in 'recommended' by all three panel members get informed about their selection after the entire process is over (let's say 22nd is the last date, so couple of days after that).
