Last year we had a simple GD/PI process but our seniors did have simulation exercise.
It was basically to test your team building skills and your ability to work well in a team. This year, from what our profs have said, they will try to test your conceptualisation skills.
But then again, we can not be sure what the process is till it starts.

Like I mentioned, our seniors did have a simulation exercise and you can read up on that on the mdi hr gd/i thread of 2007
From what I remember, they were given small items like matchsticks, tape etc and were asked to build as many things with them as possible.
But please don't assume that you'll get a similar exercise as well. And don't stop working for GDs. We were told we might have a simulation exercise as well and we ended up having GDs
The kind of exercise you get is purely on the prerogative of the faculty and all we can do is speculate about it.

Thank you Praajya for taking up the queries
I want to know if the PGP-HR guys are at par with the PGPM students or not? Like, at the time of conducting the college fest and other events,do the PGPM students have an upper hand?
Also, do the placements take place together or separately for both the courses?
Thanks
Itisha

There are a lot of academic clubs here at MDI. We have three major events committees and we have other voluntary clubs as well. HR and for that matter IM students are free to be a part of any club. All the clubs have their own selection process and depending on the capabilities of the person, not which course he's studying, the person in inducted into a club.
A lot of HR students actively participate in all the events organised at MDI and many times, they're at the forefront of the organizing the event.
Don't worry about not being given a fair chance. It's all very transparent here.
The placements for the whole batch i.e. PGPM and PGHR is done at the same time in the placement week.

I feel that there is no one book that can tell you all about HR. Since you have work-ex, you must have dealt with HR in your organization. HR is anything related to the employees. Our work spans from recruitment, training, learning and development to performance management etc. You can try the web for HR books, like Snell and Bohlander - managing human resources. There are HR competency models that you can look into to see what work HR does and the competencies needed for it. A particular favourite is the Dave Ulrich HR Competency model.
But nothing beats talking to someone who's actually in the field. So if you can, talk to the any person in HR, from your company or any other and ask them what their work entails and discuss your queries with them.

@ divya, your quant marks may pose a problem. mdi has sectional cutoffs as well at about 75 percentile.
