As Varun mentioned in a post, I too feel that alongwith capturing the people's perception, there should be some other base as well..... Like a pg team going on a survey of colleges or looking at the actual performance of a college based on the same parameters on which people voted. Although that would be a bit difficult to execute without anyone raising a point with suspicion
I'm saying this because IMI hasn't really registered an increase (AFAIK, just a mere 3 ranks from last year). This is primarily because of lack of brand/advertising etc. But people who know about IMI would tell you that it's much better than the 31st rank it got here. Not that it's the best, but certainly it shouldn't be that bad
And just a point...... with loads and loads of people accessing pg day in day out.... don't you think that perception starts from this very point?? I mean, people seeing IMI at 31 would tend to believe that this is not a college to visit, and this word spreads and leaves an impression. It may be any other college as well..... like for eg. GIM
Again, I'm not saying that PG rankings are bad and should be done away with.... These are probably the only rankings that B-schoolers and aspirants look up to without any suspicion. Just defining the meaning of perception

"Engineer-friendly" school is different from "only engineer" school. The reason i asked for engineer vs non-engineer data is that if i am not an engineer why would i try and build a perception at the first place about a school that's only admitting engineers. So schools like IIT b-schools and NITIE might be losing out on non-engineer votes.

First things first... Kudos to the PG Team for carrying out the whole exercise and rounding it off with a wonderful interface for us. Great Job!!
Coming to the rankings... Personally I am disappointed with SJMSOM's ranking and believe that we should b ranked much higher up, but again full respect to the methodology and I guess we have a whole new way forward before the next year rankings come out.
What scares me most is of course the fact that Females rate us @ no. 31!!!! Heart breaking to say the least!!!!
Two points which I would like to concur too :
1. option of not rating any college among the two.
2. a better profiling of the people appearing in the survey.
Obviously as "engineer only" B school (I am nt a gr8 fan of that phrase:-x) it gives us a better idea of perceptions of our target audience.... and also gives a better picture of the mix of aspirants each year.
Overall gud job... keep it up guys !!!!

Cudnt agree more wit u buddy :-)
Great job done by PG team in coming out with this ranking. Best part is the transparency shown by PG in cmng out with the rankings. However, as said in the above posts, few colleges are missing out in the process.
PG is one of the most followed rankings, due to its transparency & visibility due to the number of users on PG. Getting lower rankings on PG is hence disheartening.
Few suggestions:
1. PG can comeup with some research based ranking of their own
2. Every college has few strengths in terms of area of specializations. PG can come up with separate rankings on this basis.
Having said that, once again congrats to the PG team.

If you noticed, all engineer only schools got hammered on the women's only rankings. It is an honest portrayal of how women think about these schools. This article too might help - Insights and Opinions
As for the research based ranking, you should read apurv's thoughts on it

Great job PG!!!
However,I think that regional variations have definitely played a big role in the overall rankings.
For example,JBIMS is ranked below NMIMS and IMT-G by north indian voters, and below XIMB by east indian voters.
Since this survey talks about people's perception in ranking b-schools,I think one cannot make absolute conclusions on the basis of the rankings.
JBIMS is not that well known throughout India because:
1.There's no seperate entrance exam.
2.Being a university department,it has infrastructural and financial constraints that leads to poor marketing.
But here in Mumbai,it is still a cult brand, and I have batchmates who have left IIM-K/XL/MDI/IIFT to come here.
Though you have done a wonderful job of coming up with a very democratic ranking,I chipped in here to make this small clarification to aspirants who might be applying to B-schools purely on these rankings.
Once again,great job done!!

whew! good job
though general disclaimer its perception overall ..the reality is always different..n reality bites errr media hype bites
the queen asked the mirror.."mirror mirror on the wall who is the best-B school of all"
mirror showed something else.. the queen wanted something else..
waise the real manager is the one who is proactive and sees behind the canvas. Though perception based ranking is cool device but It has its own fault and have never been in favor of that..I hope the future budding aspirants would be smart enough

Since its a perception system which works equally well across the nation - you have seen the variations in rankings show up remarkably well. Now when you mention a college like IMI, or Great Lakes, they may have performed differently within their own regional rankings which is the beauty of all the data we capture. A lot of assumptions get squashed because a lot of rankings come up with little data and forces the end user to make a lot of assumptions. Say school X from North came up higher in the overall rankings, with other rankings you may just assume that since the school is strong in north, it has ranked well. With us - you see how they did across all demographies, regions etc and get a much better sense of why they are placed how they are.

Thanks for your opinion. I would again like to congratulate PG for coming out with rankings which are better than at least rankings of magazines which have a strong element of surprise wherein some unheard B-Schools figure in the top-bracket out of the blue. Differences are bound to exist because rankings are always relative.
I also agree with Biswarup that it would make more sense if engineer and non-engineer respondents' perception is captured differently so that schools exclusively meant for engineers don't lose out on non-engineer votes.
And not to forget one thing, PG this time has provided a wonderful user-friendly interface. Kudos to PG team for that too!

Hey I hope you take this in good spirit...JB is definitely a cult in mumbai but that is it where it ends. Being a regional college due to its regional intake it ends up having a regional brand value. Inspite of the fact that JB is a good college, it doesnt lives upto a expectation of a National college and therefore is bound to get hammered in a Nationawide Ranking.
In this nothing lies Everything......

Coming to the rankings, I believe this years ranking is a much truer reflection of the top 10. I am sure there will be some people who do not agree.
IIM Indore is in its rightful place this time around. I always felt the last pg rankings did not do justice to the top 10. That was maybe due to very less participation from people around central India region.
Another point which I noticed in the insights page of ranking is that "it is surprising that IIMI is ranked above IIMK in spite of K being Older"
Well I am not surprised as there is very little difference in age. K is just an year older. So age is not an issue. I am not claiming that I is better than K here. Just an opinion (well, who am i Kidding! Of course I am )
Cheers!

The wait is over and once again Gr8 work by PG team
The improved methodology adds credibility to the ratings..
But i would like to differ with the ratings of IIMK especially in South region.
Not to argue which of I or K is better, but definitely K is the preferred one than I in south region.
