my scores

math: 20
di: 37(ims) / 42(cl)
english: 68(ims)/ 53(cl)
OA: 115-125

there's definitely no hope for maths so what options do I have (in cat accepting colleges)
MICA? IMT? IMI? Tapmi? SPJain?
(already applied for IMI)
should i apply to mica/imt and tapmi??
will the low percentile in maths be a hindrance?
Do they have sectionals??
'

If this score will fetch 60 percentile in quant then you will not face much trouble in getting call from these colleges except SP Jain, thats a different ball game altogether. You can apply to other colleges like NIRMA, KJSOM in this range. Make your decision wisely, consider all the factors.

QA - 41
DI - 37

any chances of getting A or C calls or any other IIMs? I know i might be over expecting here. but just wanted to get the opinions of who have been through the process.

Thumbs up Re: CAT 2008: Analysis, Experience, Discussions , & More - 17-11-2008, 03:16 AM

My 2 cents:

Firstly, following were the actual scores and corresponding percentiles last year(approximately):

QA:
27 92.xx %ile
32 95.xx %ile

DI:
48 95.xx %ile
43 92.xx %ile

VA:
28 95.xx %ile
25 92.xx %ile

Overall:
104 98%ile
115 99%ile

Had a look at this years paper and following were my observations:

QA:Easier than last year.DS this year was tougher though.More no. of doable questions compared to last year.Consequently cut-offs will definitely go up.The question being by how much?

DI:More or less of the same difficulty level as last year(Maybe a shade tougher).Cut-offs should not vary much.

QA:Surprise surprise!!!40 qs instead of 25 but thankfully the level of questions and the ambiguity in answers was much lower compared to 2007.People with good verbal skills are bound to gain here.Cut-offs will definitely be high.

Although there were more questions this year the time allocation should have been more or less on the same lines as last year.
Something like say 45-45-60 or 45-50-55 minutes for QA-DI-VA would have been the ideal strategy.
Hence i am assuming that time allocated for DI and QA will be more or less same as last year.

My Take on this years cut-offs:

QA:
38 95%ile
33 92%ile

DI:
44 95%ile
40 92%ile

VA:
48 95%ile
43 92%ile

Generally 95%ile in each section gives one an overall percentile in the range of 98.
Hence 98%ile this year should be somewhere around 127-130.

OA:
128 98%ile
138 99%ile

Additionally,

Following were the cutoffs(percentiles) last year for various CAT based colleges...

IIMA 99.3 overall (sectionals marginally higher than IIMC)

IIMB profile based( Least being somewhere around 95)

IIMC 98.96 overall (sectionals around 95 each)

IIML profile based(least being somewhere around 97)

IIMK 98 overall with 92 sectionals

IIMI 98 overall with sectionals 80 called top 1500 odd students satisfying
this criteria

IIMS 80% marks in graduation(not sure about the CAT percentile though
people with around 96.5 have made it)

NITIE 98.2 overall with sectionals 80

MDI PGPM 97 overall with 80 sectionals

SPJAIN Profile based...although everyone needs to score at least 85 percentile in CAT

IMI (PGDM) 96 overall sectionals 50

IMT-G 96 overall

With the competition getting tougher with every passing day,I dont see the cut-offs coming down at least if not going up.

My advice to aspirants:
* People who have done well keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best and those who haven't, don't worry there are still many other exams to go.Keep fighting!!! the battle is not over yet.
* Focus on the other exams you have applied for.
* Dont read too much into the VA keys supplied by the coaching institutes as they are never accurate enough although the accuracy might go up this time around(owing to a less ambiguous paper).

PS:Views are entirely personal.

Just for the record my performance last year:

DI:99.25 %ile
QA:91.54 %ile
VA:95.34 %ile
OA:98.99 %ile

No IIM calls...

Dude,
Dont get me wrong here but ur DI score might act as a spoiler. You might still manage calls from B and L based on your profile.I might oblige too.Just keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Hi jaydi,
I personally feel you have done a good job.You might very well land up with a few IIM calls.

I dont think anything below 40 in DI will fetch a 95 percentile.....and judging from the paper I would say about 140 overall should be a 99.

But its just my opinion...I hope the cutoffs are lower!!

Re: CAT 2008: Analysis, Experience, Discussions , & More - 17-11-2008, 03:53 AM

hello all,
Congrats to those who have achieved gud scores best of luck from my side for ur GD/PIs.
i am a newbie here, gave my first CAT today.following are my expected marks:

QA: 20(silly mistakes)
DI: 43(CL) 38(IMS)
VA: 65(CL) 70(IMS)

OA: 128(both cl and ims)

i know i wont get a call from any iim and i havent filled up any other form, so wanted to know - for which institutes do i have a chance(and whose deadlines havent passed away)?

i didnt prepare for cat and just gave few mocks as i wasnt interested(or didnt have confidence). My profile:

10th: 90%
12th: 93.2%
B.E. final year: 76% till 6th sem
Job offer from Microsoft SDET

Plz suggest whether i should apply for any other institutes or not? a bit confused(till VA keys dont change)
