Re: CAT 2008: Analysis, Experience, Discussions , & More -

Hello friends,
My first post here...
paper was a surprise for VA section as no of qs increased and time is same...
strategy of mocks dosnt played much role:confused::confused:
but QA was fine as i did in most of my mocks hoping to get good chunk of marks here...
DI was not at all good for me, as it required more calculations and also no of qs per caselet was lower...
all in all
my attempts:
QA 15/25 (2 tukkas)
DI 8/25:eyepop:
VA 23/40
Lets wait of analysis and answer keys....

CAT 2008: Analysis, Experience, Discussions , & More -
16-11-2008, 03:31 PM
25 25 40...I think this is the first time that the number of questions were not evenly distributed...
40 Qs in VA was the only surprise...
DI was calculation intensive, but Reasoning questions in DI, I think came to the rescue of many.
My attempts: -
Quant - 12/25
DI - 8/25 (expecting 100% accuracy in this section):xmas:
VA - 15/40

Re: CAT 2008: Analysis, Experience, Discussions , & More -

I SEE THIS INCREASE IN vERBAL QUESTIONS AS A GOOD STEP .
As students used to do more of quant n DI, putting more weightage to verbal will increase the preparation level in verbal.
Verbal was mainly taken as an extra part..aspirants are found to mainly practice DI,Quant n keepin very less time for verbal. This is not for those aspirants, who have spent quality time with barrons!!!!!
As the paper is esy, the competition is bound tobe stronger.
Regardin the cut offs, marks may change...but I guess percentile cutoffs to remain same, more or less..
Can anyone give me an estimate of the number of people who took CAT last yr, along with the source,if any!!!:detective:

So overall, the paper was easy right? The cutoffs are expected to be around 130.

hmmmm..... good paper and thankfully the return of surprise element..
return of LR and traditional questions in VA was also eye-warming/mouth-watering
my take on 92%ile sectional cut-offs is similar to what has allready been posted bu junta..
QA -- 28
DI -- 34
VA -- 46
overall for 98%ile -- 115
overall for 99%ile -- 125
of-course the disclaimers apply..
Advise to aspirants: Now chill and enjoy.. it'd take 2-3 days for keys to stabilize..

Re: CAT 2008: Analysis, Experience, Discussions , & More -

Time for some learnings from what I have learnt from giving CAT:
1. I won't say Chill now, cos my saying so would not help you do so.. Instead, what is certainly going to happen is seeing some people attempt in the range of 60s and 65+ will make people go crazy. Puhlllleeeezzzeeeeee... wait for the answer keys... Don't think that you have spoiled the paper till then...
2. Take the answer keys of Verbal with a pinch of salt, as since 2005, answer keys of all institutes... I repeat... ALL INSTITUTES... including Time, IMS, CL, PT, CH and whatever you have on your hand... give wrong answers in Verbal... In fact, in one of the questions in 2006, they all gave same answer to a particular question... And it turned out to be something else.. In another, they gave 3 different answers, and the answer turned out to be a 4th one...
The correct answers can be known only on the day of results, so you can't do anything about it... Just check the QA and DI answer keys, those are generally correct (sometimes even they are wrong until they find from some other institute and correct them :eyepop
3. Agar paper achcha gaya hai, to result ke pehle kya ukhad loge...
Agar kharab gaya hai, to result ane tak kaise pata chalega ki kitna kharab hai?? So wait for the result... My marks in VA increased from estimates of 9 and 14 by various institutes to 30 in actual result in 2006... So leave some things to fate...
4. Go watch a movie... Maybe Quantum of Solace... Heard its nice...
You may think it is easier for me to say this... But when I did all the paper analyses last year after CAT, I thought it was time for me to prepare for another one... And my attempts were much below most people... Eventually it turned out to be 99.86... So let people say whatever they want... Wait for the result... It may make or break :eyepop: your life...
Cheers...

hmmm .. so CAT'08 is also over ...
ATB to all the test takers ...
After 3 continuous years of taking CAT , this time I excused myself.
I can understand the anxiety of you all, but but but don't be so anxious to look into the solutions now ... as JLT bhai already told that solution posted early are prepared in a hurry so have a very high probablility of getting them wrong ... with for some time atleast till midnight... hang around with friends ... go for some movies or somthing ... U all deserve a quick relaxing break.
Also u can count on the coaching institutes solutions but in quant and DI-LR sections only ... plz don't count on the VA solution ... ur actual score can swing in any direction in VA.
so once again ATB to all those who believe that they have done well ... and for all those who feel that perhaps this was not their day ... many more test r coming up ... and 1 thing I can tell you from my personal experience that if u have prepared well u WILL land up in some good institute.
ATB for rest of ur exams!!!
Cheers!!!

ALL Puys u can check answers for SET 111 by clicking :-
CAT 2008 Answer Key, See Cat Answers, CAT Question Paper Solved, Get Your Score, Analysis, Interactive Score Card, National Percentile Calculator, CAT 2008 Solutions Sheet and Cut-offs
I think cut off if in any case had to increase from 30-35% of total score will be primarily bcz of levelling of field by IIM'S for humanities n othr allied streams.....
Cut off should be :-
1 IIM ---- 130+ (Shillong)
6 IIM's ---- 145+
MDI/SP JAIN ---- 125-130
IMT GHAZIABAD ----- 122
IMI, DELHI/TAPMI/MICA------- 117
Just an opinion from experience gained over years.

So @all those people, I can say 99.99% sure the cutoffs will certainly not be this high... I would say 32+ in Quant, maybe some 35-38+ in DI, since people solve more of it, and I would be highly surprised if VA goes above 50...

yes i think you r right i post that much bcos i think just talk the toppers still i belive cut to b around 130
