study leave or resign??? ---- some advice pls - 15-05-2004, 04:54 PM

hey all

im faced with a dilemma here, pls drop in some advice if possible.....

ive gotten admission into IIM C.....

and im workin @ Reliance Infocomm...

just when i was preparin for leaving the rigors of the job n sail off for jokaland, my boss suggested tat i shud try for study leave instead of resignin....

so im a bit confused....
thing is there is NO bond or stuff for the 2 year study leave.... but as per info from the HR guy i d be joinin back on same terms --- obviously tat is not acceptable 2 me
--- but i think the info just showed tat these guys haven't ny set policy yet for these kinda stuff
( actually nther colleague who d left to do MS in UK was told there was no study leave funda - - - think its a IIM tag tat s workin here )
nyways this means i ll have to renegotiate if i decide to join after IIM...
and probably i wud not even join .....
but i guess there s just the security factor....

so help me out junta....... some valuable opinions pls

Why are u giving second thoughts on this ??? Quit ur job. You can get into better companies once you graduate. Don't think of being loyal to your company. Be practical.

dude..
go to C go to C go to C

why are you even considering this...
dont narrow down your options when you have such wonderful options for the future ... it is always better to keep as many options as possible instead of only going back to reliance infocomm.....
tell them courteously that you want to do some value addition and would love to join back in reliance but presently want to focus on career building and so would quit and hope to come back later or some such thing...

keep your options open buddy and go to C

adios
psmith

No harm in taking a sabbatical leave (even if ur sure of not joining the company). You are not paying them anything, nor u'll be forced to join after completing ur MBA (I suppose no bond).

Get a better job in C and then u can always give a polite refusal to Reliance infocom.

So they are doing this favor free of cost ... no harm in taking it. Who knows in two years Reliance infocom might beat AT&T :-) (just a passing thought)

abs. agree with Vik...take a sabbatical(if it is without any strings attached...read bonds,etc)....keep ur options open....u can always tell them ur not joining after u get the dream offer frm campus...

nope.. this security thingie is just an illussion.. there is nothin like it in the present job market... quit ur job and go all out for MBA from C... believe me, there was this talk about job security when i quit my job with a prestigious central govt. R&D organization, after a five yrs stint there, to take up my present job... i didnt give a damn.. and i will do the same again, if i make it to IIMs...

so, dude... no second thought... quit ur job...
