Well nice points coming up.

As for the reason panel might ask me next year (in case i get calls next year). I wud say : I didnt feel that it was right time for me to go for an MBA. i thought first i will have some work xperience so that i can hav a better view of things around me. And then go for an MBA...

How does this reason sounds....convincing or not ?

Another personal reason is this that i want to njoy my life and my own money at bombay as i am new here......Ek saal ke njoyment ka sawal hai...

neways thanx for ur views...still undecided bt almost 99% chance of goin with "chucking IIM L" decision

Cheers

Hi,
Even i would say take up IIML ANYDAY if :

1) You are sure you want an MBA now

2)You would enjoy working for an year...if you start disliking your work then your missed iiml call will give you nightmares even before CAT2004... believe me....IIML is NOT A JOKE!

3)Profile looks better and all...12 months of workex really doesnt make much of a diff. actually....dont go by this parameter...

4) dont get into this ABCL ranking thing..there is no end...and frankly its what you
take from the institute that will make the difference and not what all it can give to you....all the iims provide you with the facilities...dont be myopic and go after ranking only.....

Just to add some examples :

1) I am 2003 grad working at Oracle....gave cat this year...got all gd/pi calls...was absolutely willing to take up L....

2) One of my friend from Intel...got through IIML this year and is taking it up...

Mostly the guys have responded advising you to take up L...now its your choice but please make a sensible decision....dont go by student perception of IIMABC...the recruiters rank IIMS/XLRI very highly and thats the place MONEY is finally going to come from....and MONEY is what we all are after..an IIML P&G/HLL guy will be considered better after 2 years than an IIMABC guy who got a bad deal in campus...

basically these perceptions are just pointers...dont make your decisions based on them...take up L and do great there and you shall not have any regrets...

hi GUTSY Man,

One point,
Anything less than 1yr of work ex is peanuts ..........You will only know how it is to work in a professional environment..........trust me, you would not have had any Quantum leap in knowledge base/experience/exposure within 1 yr.

An yr invested in your career after an IIM MBA is going to give you a far higher exposure to challenges than now , working in a IT setup, irrespective of the company.
And besides, you will anyway not be spending all your energy on your present work since you will be thinking about the CAT ahead.

But having said all the above BS, Whatever decision YOU take is the RIGHT ONE, and never ever regret any Decision later in hindsight!

Best of luck, (at this point in time you need more luck than when you were writing CAT).

If you dont understand something, it's intuitively obvious.

hey

too much has bin said already for me to add anythin substantial but my$0.02 is that if u have it in u to take it next yr.. then go ahead chuck iim_l .. but dont dso it for reasons which sound appealin but may not work after all..
iim abc are jus percieved to be higher . ofcourse they are the best three institutions in the country but if u the top rung in l .. u wud be better off than many others in abc.
companies are not gonna look at ur tag after ur work.. what ur pg instt will do is to give u a jumpstart ..
1 yr work ex .. well is negligible

and as someone down the posts said.. a brave decision is not always the best decision..

rest is on u .. it always will be ur own decision arrived at after takin a host of variables into a/c

whateva u do .. all the very best for that
God Bless

know a project manager in one of the IT services companies.
is from IIT, 1994 batch,
was telling me, he got thru iiml when in college and didn't join as he wanted to take another shot at cat.
next time the only convert he had was XLRI, hence he had to join there, coz he didn't want to waste more effort to take CAT again.
so instead of an IIM, he's now from an XL

2 points.
1) bird in hand.......(u that sure that iima/b/c is going to admit you next yr?)
2) xl/other instis are not bad, its what you can make of your career after graduation

incidentally, his class mate from IIT, who never took cat, is now a senior project manager!

hey!
i'm based in kolkata and am working at pwc. dont worry about the luck factor, dude - we WILL crack iims abc next year (this year, actually !!). one of my seniors gave me a very important piece of advice - if you dont FEEL comfortable with going to xlri this year, u should not go for it because you will always have that nagging thought in your mind that "i could have got thru iim abc if only i had been patient and tried once more". so chillax and appear for cat 2004 - who knows, by this time next year we will be proud of ourselves about the decision we took !!
