Re: [2008] Ask MICA Ahmedabad: Official Admission Query Thread feat. Prof Deval Karti -

Hello Deval Ma'am
I find that I am more interested in the 15-month long PGPCME also run by MICA..I have not appeared for the CAT or GMAT..However,I am being advised to sit for the GMAT..Would it be more of an advantage if I tried for the PGPCME and gave my MAT?or GMAT?
According to the website,it would suffice to just sit for the MICAT directly..I am working presently in a job that does not satisfy my creative instincts..I am uncertain of whether and to what extent Entrepreneurship can be taught, but I am willing to learn and absorb as much as I can from MICA,if in case I do get through..
Can a candidate appear for both the MICATs,given that it is held twice a year?(in the event that the first attempt is a washout) Lastly,GE is my Waterloo..
I have a reasonably impressive extra curricular history and I scored 75% in my Final Year of graduation in English Hons this year..I would be extremely grateful if you could advise on what to work on..And I mean, not just aspects I can guage..If there's anything else you can tell me that would help..
Thank you so much..

Hi Peyden
Just clarify one thing first. You wish to do PGPCME because you are interested in it or is it because you don't want to take CAT/GMAT. These are two different things... almost like saying, I will marry my batchmate because John Abraham/Bipasha Basu has no interest in me!
So, have a clear understanding of why you wish to do PGPCM/PGPCME.
Once you have that clarity, shoot your questions again... I am here to answer you
Cheers
Deval

Hello Ma'am,
Will a overall percentile of around 95+ with 85+ percentile in English suffice to fetch me a call for MICAT?
Thanks,
Ravi.

Hi Ravi
What about the other two sections?? You need minimum cut off in all three as quoted on MICA website!

Hello Ma'am,
In the other two sections i would get more than 92-93 Percentile..My worry is regarding the English section...I think i will be able to fetch upto 85-86 percentile..
Can you tell me what was the cutoff percentile last year as far as English is concerned? Also your prediction for this year.
Thanks,
Ravi.

Hello,
I am definitely getting over 90 %ile (maybe 95%ile 115 -125 score) and definitely over 95%ile in english..
the site says:
Quote:
The CAT cut-off percentile for the 2009-2011 batch.
MICA will shortlist candidates with over all 90 percentile in CAT and with sectional cut off of 50 percentile and above in DI & QT. For verbal comprehension, sectional cut off will be 60 percentile.
|
Is this a decided fact already? ie the percentiles for call are already fixed?
Secondly, approximately how many students give the MICAT and how many are called for the next stage?

Hello Deval Ma'am
I'm sorry I didn't clarify in the first place : I am not an MBA aspirant, never was. Hence I did not sit for the CAT or XAT or GMAT for that matter.
Secondly,I am more interested in the PGPCME because it offers both Communication Management and Entrepreneurship (and both interest me equally)- I haven't heard of any other institute offering both these courses together.
So if the website says that CAT/GMAT/MAT scores will be accepted for the PGPCME then does it leave candidates like me,who will be sitting for the MICAT directly,at a disadvantage at any level?
I hope this much of clarification will do.And I hope you will answer my queries now.
Thank you,once again.
Peyden.

Re: [2008] Ask MICA Ahmedabad: Official Admission Query Thread feat. Prof Deval Karti -

Hello mam,
I have some 4-5 set queries..but let me first start with the first set which is about (me) getting a call for MICAT..
- I have a GMAT score of 680 (50 in QA, 32 in VA, 5 in AWA)..do you see sectionals in GMAT..if so will my 32 in VA good enough to get a call?
- I have given CAT also...I expect to clear the required minimum cut off in all the 3 sections and overall required for MICA..but don know whether I will get 85+ percentile in Verbal..I expect 75+ in VA..so if I submit both my CAT and GMAT scores, will MICA consider the best of the two?
- If all ppl (or most of the ppl) who apply for MICA satisfy the minimum cut off requirement, then what other factors you see to give a call for MICAT..Will a not so high percentile in VA act against my selection in this case?..or is it like all ppl who apply and satisfy the minimum critera get a call for MICAT?
- Once a person gets a call for MICAT, is he in the same level with all others who get a call..meaning once a person get a MICAT call, will his CAT percentile or GMAT score play any part in the further selection processes.
Thanks in Adv,
Raghu
