Hi Ravi
Few MICAns are in film production industry and working with the likes of Yash Raj Films, in Marketing and promotions areas. Media Management speiclaization with other electives from Brand Management is the best combination for such a person.

Hello Ma'am,
I was wondering as to what exactly do you(MICA) look in a prospective student before accepting his/her admission to MICA.
In my case, i haven't had much experience with Advertisement, neither do i think that i am extra creative to think of crafty one liners on the spot. So if i intend to pursue that course, do i need to have some previous know-how regarding that field?
Same in the case of Communications. I am quite comfortable with communicating in English but i don't think that its above par or something on the lines of extra classy. So can something like that hamper one's chances or that the evaluation is based on criteria apart from the ones i mentioned?
To sum it up, i would like to ask that what are the prerequisites, more so personality based?
Appreciate your guidance.

Hi Dipen
MICA looks for some very normal things in candidates... Some clarity on how MICA is different from a standard MBA programme [So that you don't regret later as to why you are there ], some basic understanding of what's happening in the field of marketing communications (look around you, what new products/brands, how do they communicate; how are they different from their competitors, what are they doing to be different/similar, what new media are being used; what new channels, programmes, which genre is getting more new entrants....) So a general level of curiosity and willingness to find out more will help. For this, one need not have experience in ad agency or marketing or extra degree of creativity!!
MICA also looks for lateral thinking skills. In a highly competitive world, one needs to think differently and also look for several ways to do things. That's what we look for! Again, it is about being practical, not really about being 'creative' in terms of producing one liners for campaigns.
Team work, leadership qualities and good communication are certainly required!
Hope this answers your question.
Good luck
Deval

Hi Ma'am,
I have always had a keen interest in advertising. I have even worked in Ogilvy & Mather Mumbai for sometime as an intern and i loved the place and the job. My father happens to own an ad agency too and i have always loved creating ads and jingles for him (not to say that i dont dig into the business side of it). I did my BMM (Bachelor's in Mass Media) from Mumbai university. I am a fresher and i really want to do an MBA. So i have zoomed in on MICA and the MBA in communication management course about which i have heard a lot. But some friends and seniors say that an MBA in Marketing from any other good B-school will serve the same purpose. I, on the other hand, believe that specialization in something that i have graduated in, would give me a better insight into the industry which is going to be my life soon i.e. ADVERTISING. What do u suggest? Shud i aim precisely at MICA as i am already into my CAT prep???

Hi,
I want to advance my career in Marketing and advertising and thats the reason i want to join MICA.But going through the placement list of 2008 i didn't see many big players like AC Neilsen , Star , JWT etc in the companies list. Also it says 94 ppl were placed. Can you give me an idea of your batch size.
Also about the internships, where do MICAn's generally do their internships....???

Hello Deval.
Might nice of you to sort out our quereies.
Well i am keen to join in MICA fop the Communication Aspects of it. I had seen earlier in the posts that Corporate Communication as a stream was a sub topic of marketing. Could you throw some more light as in how different is it from Marketing? What kind of decision making in sinvolved in Corp Comms?
I am basically an IT Professional ( SAP) with 15 months experience as of now. Im looking for a compleet switch into areas that help me implement any kind of communication.
I am an ardent writer in my companya s well as for newspapers and various other places. I am keen to take up a course where i might get a chance to hone the same and in the process look for ckimbing up the ladder.
Do let me know if i might find any such avenue here at MICA. I would be keen to join the same!
Also do we have courses lesser than 48 months?
So if i could know from you Corp comm aspects, avenues matching my areas of ineterst , time durations and placement pakages wuld be quite cool

The cut-offs keep changing every year. It depends on the number of applicants. Since the no. of applicants usually increase every yr, so do the cut-offs. U'd be surprised how low the cut-offs of A grade colleges were a few yrs back. Just yeaterday came across a 2004 site which had mentioned mica cut-off as 70 and imi cut-off as 85. if only........sigh
CAT'08 OA--92.81:-x
XAT'09 OA--99.79 No Calls:sad:
Calls-- TISS HRM, IMT-N, LBSIM, GIM
