I will be sitting for CAT 2009 but I am worried about my prospects of entering into the top notch because of the fact that I have no work ex(less then 6 months does not make any difference) and the PG degree is through correspondence mode. The period 2008-2010 may prove critical for me.
Puys, what do you think about it. I welcome any suggestion/s that may prove helpful to me.
There are plenty of freshers in all the top b-skools...so do not worry abt the lack of work-ex...Wat u wud be reqd to do is justify how u used this time constructively...u can always say u did a correspondence PG, simultaneously prepared for CAT, took time out do things which u r passionate abt like some hobbies...
Anything os fine, wat matters is do u believe u utilised the time well...

Right now ur focus shud be on cracking cat, worry abt the rest of the things after CAT 2009... ATB...

priyam,

i have never taken the simcats.. but, CAT has no set pattern or type of Qs .. so any mock CAT paper might be a good practice material

Re: Calling all CAT 2009 puys!! - 25-02-2009, 01:02 AM

Hi all.. Its great to see so many ppl with so much of enthu that fills in 50 pages of the thread but at the same time it is sad to see tht not many have posted their prep status or strategies.. I assume ppl have not started their prep as of now..

Guys can we start the prep please??

Material: I have the correspondence material of CAT from IMS and i plan to join the test series conducted by them. I assume it gonna be enough. I read somewhr tht CAT does not check the level of difficulty but it checks how u handle the pressure. Of course you need to be well prepared but i wud advise do not refer many material together. Stick to just one as the basic fundas will be the same in each book right!!

Time left: It is end of Feb now. Mar will start in a few days. From March to Oct there are still 8 months let for the actaul prep and not just discussion.

Planning: Each and every individual will have to chalk out their plan as it is comfortable for them. One plan cannot work for everyone.. We arent clones right!!

Below is wht can work for a few including me..
1) Clear the basic fundas of all the areas in first 4 months. You can extend it to 5 months but do not move ahead with the tests unless your fundas are crystal clear. By this time mostly all the coaching classes start their mock tests. The next 3 to 4 months can be devoted to taking practise tests and improvising.
2)Visit TenaDay for more practise tests. I havent checked this site as of yet but what i have read in other posts is tht this site is very helpful. PG will also keep ur interest alive till the D day..
3) Read news papers and novels everyday and devote atleast 3 hours of study time evryday..
4) Do not burn out as many wud advice.

As one of the puys pointed it out since the CAT is going online we do not knw how it wud turn out to be. Therefore reputed classes like IMS and TIME may be able to better handle the situation however it may come out later. I suppose we should wait for the CAT notification. :(

Start March I intend to start my prep for CAT. I will also appear for GMAT so CAT will be my second prio but a prio for sure.

As and when i start I will start putting down my developments here.. Is there anybody who has similar plans as i do? :bigear:

Why shouldn't one move ahead wid tests while preparing?
For a college going student like me , balancing acads + 3hrs of study for cat + cat coaching alternate day+ all the newspaper , mag reading , when do i eat and sleep [ which are pretty high on my priority list ]???

This is really an eye opener , does cat require 3-4 hrs of study everyday? I know some might say that going to a coaching institute might compensate for it but trust me, they just brush up the concepts , self study requires separate time.

i am confused and scared now

Hey globetrekker.. i meant about the mock tests tht the classes start. it is great if u can manage to give the full length tests without getting ur basics clear.. but i see no point in taking the full length tests without getting ur basics clear. If ur basics arent clear, how will u give the test? do u have an idea abt tht? plz let me knw also..

I am working and like u even i will have to adjust my timings for studying for the CAT. If u go join any coaching class and if u feel it is enough for u then there is certainly no point in studying again for 3 hours.. As i said before also everyone should chalk out a plan for themselves which are suitable for them.
