CAT and Related DiscussionDiscuss information and B-schools under the toughest and most exclusive management entrance exam in India. The CAT - The Common Admission Test.
It was helpful..but most of the B-Schools today mention averages of domestic and international salaries seperately..and those who do not, are actually understood to have lower domestic salaries..and they are combining both the figures just to show a more handsome figure..
I think you got what I am saying..
Correct me if I am wrong and if possible post the two figures seperately..

Apart from Salaries and Placements, I think you should also focus on other aspects of NITIE, or for that matter any other B-School while making a decision. These other aspects include Infrastructure, Faculty, Kind of Students, Cut-off Percentiles, Industry Interaction, Location and so on so forth.
Secondly, if you want to talk only from the placements perspective, then only having highest domestic package, highest international package and average salary as the only criteria to choose a B-School is a sure shot recipe for disaster. I would advise you to also look at the other parameters of placements like:
Kind of companies visiting a campus: If the trend is moving from Domestic firms towards Multinationals, that reflects positive on the strengths of a B-School.
Kind of profiles and location it offers: I might prefer a package of say x lacs in a particular metro than a package of y lacs in a remote area. Here y>x.
Trust me these things happen.
Number of students being placed: A college placing 200 students in flat 2 days for an average package of say 13 lacs, will be much better in terms of imparting education than a college placing just 50 students for say an average package of 13.5 lacs. What I want to convey is look at the batch strength and the average package in combination, to judge the standing of a B-School.

Hi CooLBuddy,
Things mentioned by you do really matter, it is just that average packages is also one of the factors. I visited the NITIE site and saw the profiles of the companies. Mumbai being commercial capital and with a batch containing only engineers makes it really very attractive. About infrastructure i have heard it from a frnd that the infrastructure of NITIE is not as gr8 as other top B-Schools in India..
Anyways, thanks to you guys for your prompt replies..

Hi Pranay,
I am happy that you have some doubts and myths about NITIE. Let me take this freedom to clear them and say that your frined is absolutely wrong when he/she says that NITIE's infrastructure is not as gr8 as other top B-Schools. Well read on..
1. With Respect to Sports: We have our own Football/Cricket/Basket Ball/ Volleyball ground. Basket Ball and volley ball grounds can be used in night also. Offcourse we dont have flood light for our cricket/football ground. We have indoor Badminton courts and Table Tennis courts as well. And yeah, we are now one of the very very few B-Schools who organize their own Annual Sports Meet, simple reason being not every B-School has got the capacity and the infrastructure. You may like to read this: Inter B-school Sports Meet 'Arena' Held at NITIE, Bombay
This year's version is on its way...
2. With Respect to Facilities: A world class auditorium with a sittin capacity of 200, a superb class multi purpose hall with a sitting capacity of 500, A state of the art gymanisium... which is really really ultramodern, an inhouse medical care center, a top class computer lab with packages like S.A.P. meant for students (in industry it costs you in lacs to learn S.A.P., In NITIE it costs u nothing), a library with arround a lac books and enrolled with each measure online journals from Harvard Business Review to the Economists. You have a NesCafe as well as a night mess too for the people who love to have frequent nightouts.
3. With Respect to Hostels: NITIE is one of the rarest college that provide you attach bathrooms with your rooms. Apart from this you get 24 hour Wi-Fi connectivity, a Television Set not at each hostel but at each floor of the hostel, double occupancy in 1st year and single in 2nd year (if u do a little research u can find out that there are other top B-Schools where its triple sharing in 1st year and double sahring in 2nd year). Further, there are many top B-Schools which either don't provide any hostel facility or don't have one at their own campuses. And mind you if you are not spending 2 years of your B-school life at the campus where you study, then half the learning is gone.
4. With Respect to Location and Area: Only thing that can be said about NITIE is, it's a true hill resort in a crumbling city like Mumbai. And in order to believe it You need to visit the campus. Area wise the NITIE Campus is bigger than a lot of campuses of top B-Schools.
Finally what I meant in my last post was alongwith average and highest salary, other parameters were no less in importance... but probably you were missing on those parameters. I would invite you and your friend to my college and proudly show them our campus. And yeah, the cut off percentile of 98.2 pc (with sectional being 80+) itself shows that students join NITIE only after doing a thorough research.

Hello Rahul,
You can surely apply for NITIE if you have obtained a first class in your engineering. All the best..!

koolbuddy has given you all the major points about the infrastructure here at NITIE...but i dont think one can ever imagine how beautiful the NITIE campus is till you actually come here...we can go on and on about it...i am attaching some pics of the campus here for you to see...if you ever happen to visit mumbai do come to the campus and have a look for yourself
anyways the pics
1: the pond we have on campus and one of the hostel building to the left
2 & 3 : pic of the vihar lake from the top of one of our hostel building
4 : the road that leads you into NITIE from the gate...we call it the PPO road .. the pic was taken during our convocation last month...that's why we can see all those flags put up by the road side...
5 : view of the campus from on of the classrooms...the academic block is situated at the top of a hill so all you can see from the top are the trees in the campus and one of the seven storey hostel building standing out on the left...
there are lots more that these pictures here have not captured...but infrastructure and all this scenic beauty is just one of the things that make us who we are...and there is more to a good Bschool than that ...
I am thankful to you for providing me such a nice insight of the college..I always considered NITIE in the top league of colleges but somehow I had my reservations..your posts have envisioned me with the true image of the insti..I always aspired to get into NITIE, but now I have few more reasons to get into it..
Thaks to you ppl once again...and keep up the good work..

the cutoffs for sc/st candidates is generally 10 to 15 %tile lower than the general category student...depends on the kind of applications we get...

man i have tried finding any such case in my and my senior batch, but unfortunately couldn't find any one who had a case like yours...so it is very difficult to say...man at this point of time it would be better if you concentrate on CAT and apply to as many collages as you can
