Now claiming to increase the tuition fees from 5 to 7.5 lacs does not provide any logic.
Knowing that the air fares were on their peak in 2008 and have been constantly going down since december 2008,the cost of getting in the professors from different parts of the world should have actually been reduced.
Till now the professors might have been given accomodation in 5 star hotels in chennai(considering the lack of infrastructure),but now they will be accomodated in the new campus itself,so that amounts to considerable savings.
Moreover I do not see any new names being added to the permanent faculty or the visiting faculty,so that also doesnt favour the rationale behind the increase of fees.
A 2.5 lacs increase in the tuition fees per student?????Man,nothing except the infrastructure can explain this?
So dont you think that the increase in tuition fees has been purely related to the recovery of the cost of infrastructure???
Now your reason to compare great lakes to honda.Ok i understand that due to recession, a honda cannot be rolled out for 3 lakhs(assuming its price to be 8 lacs). But knowing that in the current downside of economy,I really dont see a honda being rolled out for 11 lakhs, the latter being the case with great lakes.
Now as you say, that you people have been spending alot in chennai for food and accomodation.Have you spent,1.5 lacs on the same???Because this is what we are being charged.
PS - my post above is strictly my opinion and is not targetted on aztec or any other person.

Thanks, i just had my lunch (ok, that was a bad one.... )........see, profs are being flown in for the current batch.......have an eye on currency differences too coz that makes a difference....but who is attributing the fee rise to only a single factor.....yes, infrastructure is the biggest reason followed by inflation which is ever present and other contingent expenses which the management has a better idea of.....there is no point arguing over things like air fare when you dont have the complete picture of the expenses.....i dont claim to know it either but whatever little i know i am informing you.....i just had a chat with the Executive Director and he politely told me that they have given it a lot of thought and he explained that infrastructure and inflation are the 2 major factors......they also have a plan to recover these expenses for a time frame and not in one go as you might think.......well, we have increased the permanent faculty to 13 and this is an ongoing exercise......see, regardless of the state of the economy, we as a b school are trying to improve on our perceived weaknesses and it comes with a cost.....and as our Executive Director put it, it is nowhere close to the other 1 year programs except for SP Jain which is charging less......if a Honda is offering more mileage, more leg room and engine capacity.....well, obviously, it will be commanded at a premium....and it is nowhere close to Mercedes so to speak.....(i hope you get the allegorical reference)......
Well, i have this feeling that this thread will bear testimony to the future....2 years hence, people's perceptions would be very different....

See Anshul,
I am very objective about the whole thing......but you see i can read between the lines ....the double negatives sort of gave it away.....no real conviction in what you said... .....am i right?...chill yaar, lets say, you dont make it to the IIMs or the ISBs.....if you convert this, you have an option na?....

Re: Great Lakes Admissions 2009 -

HI all
I would like to add that Fee hike of GLIM is parallel to every other Bschool.
According to me it is rational.
Why are we all shouting n cribbing about recession and fee hike . Its not a monster that is goin to eat u up. What we should look, is the picture beyond 1 year and in longer term perspective.
I will like to ask a question, all those guys(2007-2009/2008-09) who made it to IIMs, ISB, and every other gud B school according to you, were even having slightest clue about economic meltdown in their placement season of 2009. My answer is No. U can't predict future U can only adapt urself in Different situations. M very sure given those gud times, today nobody of u wud have thought that this Fee hike is more. reason ur fin equation of ROI wud hav given u a +ve yes.
So come out of ur comfort zone and try to fit urself in evry odd situation.
Another thing If recession has to hit u, it will not only hit u in GLIM, It will hit u hard at any damm place u r currently at, whether it is ur current profession or business.
I can understand that we all wud be putting in our hard earned money but i believe if we put our best during our tenure at GLIM. we surely are to get +ve returns.
All the best for results......

Hi TWB,
There were speculations that the result will be out on 28th feb.
No sign of results as yet.
Can we expect the results at midnight??Or even tomorrow for that matter?

Zubin

Hi
I hve seen all he posts and from my personal point of view i second Zubins toughts at the same time i acknowledge that the seniors wouldnt have much idea on the concessions if any or the concrete reaosns behind the hike. But all the same i suppose its an open forum and every prospective student has teh right to post a valid concern and query without fear. I ahve spoken to twice blessed man personally and he has been one person who showed deligence i would say in answering my questions beyond my bone of contention. I am personally grateful to him.
I would just like to tell my fellow prospective students that there is nothing to be scared of in asking valid questions or concerns to patient seniors who are able to 'stand in our shoes' and an apology would stem up only if we have taken Nehas way of passing abnoxious comments or unreasonable personal jibes.
cheers

Re: Great Lakes Admissions 2009 -

I think the concerns over the fee rise are because of many people comparing Great Lakes with two year programs.
Great Lakes PGPM is a 1 year program and it’s unfair to compare it with two year programs, and among the 1 year MBA programs in India, its fees are still on the lower side.
However every good Management program/school has some limited scholarships especially for deserving candidates, Great Lakes doesn’t have one.
Maybe the Management can think over this aspect, and come up with a scholarship plan at least for people applying next year.
Secondly TBM and AM are just current GLIMS students, you can’t take them to task for management decisions on which they don’t have any control.
Maybe we can take their help to gain insights on things they have experienced first hand at Great Lakes, like the two important P's, Pedagogy and Placements. I am sure they can give us more insight on this.

Hi Shwetha,
You are quite right. However, Zubin is just expressing his anxiety and trying to question the rationale behind the hike which i feel is a frivolous exercise coz this is not the forum to address this anyway.....at the max, you will vent out your feelings and try to sound wiser than the pack and the management too!!....but nobody has a better picture of the institute's functioning than the management.....what i would suggest is to accept the way things are and wake up to reality.....we as a b school have big ambitions to be in the top 10 in india....and we are taking actions to set the stage for it.....so, do you want to be part of this story.....or just wait till competition gets tougher than this year and your dreams go out of reach.....and this applies especially to CAT applicants.....you know the first batch of students who came here took a leap of faith and today they are doing well.....since then, a lot of things have changed for the better in a matter of 5 years......the recession will come to pass but opportunities wont come knocking that often.....
