Comments:
For GDs, have a clear voice and smooth diction; a glib tongue is not required. Rest is all a game of having good content and timing your entry in the GDs, which of course comes with practice.
For PIs, I have no clue exactly what works . I cleared my worst PIs and was waitlisted at 19 for my best PI (XLRI-BM).
General advice: Be too good to be rejected.

Re: Profile of People who have Converted their IIM Calls! -
27-04-2009, 01:46 PM
Here's a profile you will not see too often:
Class 10 : 88%
Class 12 : 82.2%
B.Tech : 67%(YMCA Institute of Engg.)
Work Experience : 0 months
Extra Currics : Nothing at all
From here on in things get a bit better
CAT 07 : 99.89%ile
IIFT : 41
SNAP : 104
XAT : 99%ile
NMAT : AIR 41(I Think)
JMET : 68-70
FMS : 99.5%ile
Calls : IIM A,C,L,I,K, MDI, IMI, IIFT, SIBM, IIT B, NMIMS, FMS (MBA-MS)
Converts : MDI, IMI, IIFT(D), SIBM, NMIMS
Waitlist : IIM K, FMS(MS)
CAT 08 : 99.99%ile
Calls : IIM A,B,C,L,I,K
Converts : IIM A,K
ON-OLD : IIM C
With my kind of profile not many gave me a chance of converting an IIM specially given my bad GD Skills. But by some miracle of GOD and a decent interview I have realised my dream of IIMA.
So, people who are not sure of their chances just look at this and believe in yourself cause nothing can beat the human spirit.

- DI -99.35
4. Calls - IIM ACIKL, SJMSOM, XLRI-PMIR, NITIE Mumbai
5. Institue GD Essay PI Result
IIMA - decent Good selected
IIMC bad - Gr8 selected
IIMI decent good gr8 selected
IIMK decent - gr8 selected
IIML decent good good selected
Didnt attend- NITIE, SJMSOM, XLRI-PMIR
one of my mentor adviced me -'Ganesh always remember in GD-PI you are der to sell your candidature more as a would be student than as a would be manger' just always keep this thing in your mind in interviews...... keep things simple ,you need not to quote Philip Kotler , Adam Smith or Warren Buffet to get through....... also you are not expected to know everything. If you dnt know anything or not sure about somethings except it , it will do more good than any harm......
Do lot of introspection n have a mentor with whom you can share everything.........
and yah always remember if you have decent CAT score n good academic profile , you have already prooved yourself dnt try to overdo anything (dnt screw it up urself)........
'Life is very simple and straight forward. There is nothing , still we make mess of everything'
