Re: Profile of People who have Converted their IIM Calls! -
30-05-2008, 09:52 PM
I had accidentally posted in this thread after the CAT results, and got a lot of groans.:laugh: Hopefully, that won't be the case this time round.
10th - 73.4% (CBSE)
12th - 73.8% (CBSE)
Graduation- Electrical Engg (Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana) 64.5%
Extra Curriculars : Quizzes, Plays basically (Average, or maybe slightly above it.)
CAT 07:
QA: 98.82
VA: 97.97
DI: 96.27
OA: 99.55
Work Ex : Nil
4 months of prep (only mocks)
Applied to: IIMs, XLRI, MDI, XIMB, IMT, GIM, NITIE, SCMHRD, FMS
Calls: IIM-A,C,K,I, XLRI, MDI, XIMB, IMT, GIM, NITIE, SCMHRD
GD/PI Experiences
A : OK Essay , Nice PI (Felt OK about this one as I had answered 1 Solid question. Also, apart from academics, handled everything well)
C: Great GD , Good PI (I still wonder how this one went abegging)
I : Great GD, Horrible PI (Like many in Delhi, I was grilled like a steak..till I was rare!!)
K: Average GD , Horrible PI (stress interview:death
Converts: IIM-A, MDI, XIMB, IMT, GIM (didn't attend NITIE and SCMHRD)
And of course, joining IIM-A.
My advice to the aspirants: If I can get into A with an average academic profile, average (for them) CAT score, no work-ex for the past one year, anyone can. Just believe in yourself. It will come right if you work for it. :rockon:

Hello all...!
Abhiram from Gandhinagar Gujarat.
Acads..

XIIth - 88.2
Xth - 86.8
WorkEx - Nill
CAT 07
==========
OA - 96.49
QA - 88.3
DI - 96.5
VA - 92.6
==========
Extras
==========
Projgramming workshops conducted by me.
A karate Black belt
Genuine interests - quizzing and debating.
==========
Calls - SPJIMR, IIM Shillong.
GD/PI Experiences
==============
SPJIMR - Decent first round... great profiles around... kicked out after round 1. superb experience.. thanks to spjimr's amazing conduction. kudos.!
IIM S - case study..not upto the mark for me.. decent PI.. was grilled for about 45mins.. but i guess did well!! made it through the extended list...
So converted IIM Shillong and joining!:rockon:
the first time i heard of IIM S ... i remember myself saying 1260 is always better than 1200!! (seats at that time)... lucky to get one of these!!!!
My view of CAT :
Unlike what most feel, CAT is not just a day's game and its not about luck. I, after having an amazing mock experience with lots of ups and downs, although for just 1 year, have seen ppl cracking mocks consistently.. and the same went for them in CAT. Inspirational examples over here on PG are basilisk, navitesh, prashant, made_for_iims and many more... Though i myself couldnt do it.. it will always be a dream.... i was lucky enough to get through IIM S and so wont be taking CAT now.. (might be just for fun.. but not for admissions)..
also apart from CAT, one needs to be good atleast at some domain.. find your niche and you can get through... a couple of good calls.. some decent brushup of your life and you shall be through..
Sorry if that is too much of GYAN .. but couldnt find a better platform to speak.. All the best!
regards,
Abhiram.
P.S. Special thanks to PT, TIME and PagalGuy!!

Hi everybody...
I am Tritoy Banerjee from Kolkata.
Acads..
===========
B.E. Jadavpur University Kolkata. CGPA 8.56 (80.78%)
XIIth - 85.4
Xth - 90.12
WorkEx - 22 months in TCS
CAT 07
==========
OA - 98.36
QA - 93.4
DI - 96.8
VA - 93.7
==========
Extras
==========
Part of a disaster management project in IIM C.
==========
Calls - MDI (PGPM),NITIE,SPJIMR, IIM Shillong,IMT G,IMI,SCMHRD,SIIB etc.
Converts - SPJIMR(IM),IIM Shillong,IMT G(FT),IMI etc
Waitlists - MDI(pgpm)
GD/PI Experiences
==============
SPJIMR - Had a really good first round... The second round involved situational based questions.. think I did ok... Overall a pretty satisfying experiance..
IIM S - case study..Was able to make an entry only once or twice.. decent PI.. Was grilled a lot on J2EE(my domain of work) and maths(a favourite).. so I think it went quite well...forgot to submit attested documents but still made it in the extended list..
IMT G - This one was a roller coaster... a very brief GD and an even short PI where I was hardly asked anything...
NITIE - Had a very bad GD and an ok kind of a PI... overall not satisfactory..
MDI - The GD PI hardly mattered it was more to do with percentiles here..
Wud hav loved to join iim s and see it soar to great heights.. but already paid up spjain and its no more refundable..so heading to mumbai...
My take on CAT - No matter how hard one prepares its a bit of a T20... so ultimately its a nerve game where the calmest will rule...
regards,
Tritoy

Joining : IIM L
My take on CAT:innocent::
It’s not only a test of quant, English and DI but also how you handle pressure, how you behave in grilling situations.
Do things you like, do them with full energy. At interview you will be able to put across your ideas in a better manner. CAT is a very important but not the most important thing of your life. Do things that you always wanted to do but not able to. It will give you satisfaction that you are enjoying your time and will help you later.
If you are not happy with your life, chances are high that you wouldn't succeed in anything you do, be it CAT or any other thing. Make sure, you are happy in your life. If you aren't, make sure you do everything to improve it, in every sense.

Vikas

Calls: IIM-A,C,K,I, XLRI, MDI, XIMB, IMT, GIM, NITIE, SCMHRD
GD/PI Experiences
A : OK Essay , Nice PI (Felt OK about this one as had 1 Solid question answered, apart from academics, handled everything well)

Hey dude congratulations on making it to the best....All my wishes to you for the PGP and may you get your dream job.
I just wanted to ask your year of graduation. Is it 2007 or 2008.....? If 2007 then I guess you took a drop for an year without any experience....
Awaiting your reply

Re: Profile of People who have Converted their IIM Calls! -

Hi puys...
I am Shyam Krishna R from Madurai in Tamil Nadu.
Working in Chennai for last 2 years.
<<Academics>>
B.E. Thiagarajar College of Engg, Madurai CGPA 8.17
XIIth - 96.17
Xth - 80.00
<<Work Experience >>
24 months in Verizon Data Services India Pvt Ltd, Chennai
<<CAT 07>>
My first and only CAT
OA - 91.30
QA - 81.10
DI - 88.50
VA - 86.72
Applied for: IIMs
Calls: IIM Shillong
Converts: IIM Shillong
<<GD/PI>>
IIM S
GD : Case study was kind of simple. Many pointer from where people can bring out points even with just a glance. Got in many valid points
PI : Did not expect to get raked in my BE technical studies. But managed to come out gud. Had to show them that the 4 years of Engg had not gone waste now that I've decided to move from technology.
<<My take on CAT>>
Not much of an experience to derive upon. But for the simple results that I achieved I had to put in long hours... and the lady of luck should smile atleast a little in your direction.
