Hi,
i am sandeep (IIT KGP 2004 batch). I made it through CAT this year (99.95%ile) and am going to join IIMB.
I will not pen panegyrics in the praise of this forum or go hyperbolic highlighting the contributions of this forum in my CAT saga. but, in a very matter-of-fact way, this forum has definitely been a presence in my life, a loyal companion it has been through the trials and tribulations of the past one year ( a rather difficult one for personal reasons). I have visited this place oftener to seek solace and companionship or gain inspiration than to obtain any CAT gyaan as such - not to diminish the importance of the CAT fundas being doled out here. I have definitely been guilty of not posting more frequently on this forum but i feel it is much better to refrain from posting if you have nothinmg significant to convey than to post a whole lot of balderdash, excuse my harshness.
It has been a painful experience observing how the quality of posts has increasingly gone down - ranging from poor to utter nonsense in some cases. The B vs C discussion that has invited so much of mudslinging and poostings on fake identities reminds one so clearly of the XLRI issue last year. Without blaming anyone in particular, i must say that, i have not come across many objective or impartial advises on the forum. The bickering shows these supposedly great institutes in such a poor light that i, at one point of time, was seriously considering chucking both b and c for l- just to make a point. - only that would have made no points and i am not stupid emough to judge an institue by a few souls with their misdirected enthusiasm. i am chosing B and for purely personal reasons and on solely my own judgement (taking inputs frm friends and parents). i don't think a few jobs here and there would make any difference to me...i back myself to get the best job if i wish to and i don't think i am looking for the brand of an institute to see me through the struggles of this life. for me the current choice that we r making is one of the easier ones i would have to face in this life. when we post on this forum, we post as responsible members of this forum and not as loyal stooges of different b-schools. we are here to help and not to confuse or slander. isn't ity sad enough to know that two of our best b-chools,from all appearances, fudge data to get any mileage. i credit everyone appearing for (or having cleared) CAT with this basic maturity but evidently CAT is not a very good parameter to judge one's maturity. for doesn't this mudslinging, don't these inane and hollow "my b-school rocks" posts bring us out as ridiculously infantile. this forum doesn't deserve these posts . i don't think pagalguy or the mods can do anything to stop such juvenile posts. it is our responsibility. i am joining b and i don't think (or care if) it is the best b-school in the country. nor for that matter do ithink c or a is. from all appearances these b-schools don't teach their students honesty, integrity, modesty. i am going to b for want of a btter choice. i would any day prefer an honest school to a dishonest one.
i may have been a little too harsh...but then i haven't posted often enough and this post is the outpouring of all the pain and frustration i have undergone on seeing the degradation of this forum. This forum and Pagalguy don't deserve this. | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to sks For This Useful Post:

Hail sks! Brilliant and to the point.
Yes in all the comparisons to prove one is better than the other, what comes out with 100% certainty is that the number of intellectual fools in both B & C is the same non zero number, however small or big that number maybe be.
I too sincerely hope that after your post this unheartilty biased comparitive analysis changes atleast from the guys who go to these schools.

Well said sks. But the truth be said, for every one guy who wants to be objective, there are 10 other asinine nitwits who want to plug their bschools and think that by the mere fact of lying or misrepresenting their instt, they are doing a great deal for their instt. I just hope someday these folks see the futility in these attempts and behave like decent human beings.

it is rare and heartening to see such a mature and hard-hitting post, which truly keeps things in perspective and doesnt go ga-ga over praising a particular b-school and defaming another one. bravo sks, it takes guts for such a post.(i didnt have it earlier, now, reading ur post,i do)
ppl, for those of us joining b-schools, we must realise that the next 2 yrs and for that matter, our entire life, would require a lot of maturity on our part, to make important decisions and overall, display a positive attitude.
sks, i completely agree with u, life is too long, and just getting through(or not) some top-instis isnt gonna have a bearing on our lives forever. and putting down one institute in favour of another isnt a correct thing to do, that was not what these instis were set up for. we must realise all of them r good in their own ways, and those of us whove got through , thry and make the best out of them.
otherwise, wed be setting a bad example for the ppl who are contemplating a career in management. tango PM & IR (XLRI): 2005-07 hope- the quintessential human delusion that is simultaneously the source of his greatest strength and his greatest weakness

Hi all,
Bumping this thread because am forced to face this dilemma after a reject from WIMWI.
Am confused.
Placements are not really the criterion on which I would make a choice because a few investment banks visiting only C or making some more offers at C than B really doesn't matter.
How should I make a decision?
Why is it that B is higher in the pecking order than C when it comes to making a choice?
I am interested in finance but am not really sure because I may go for systems or IT also considering my background. Though I will never go for marketing or HR.
I believe that everything else being almost comparable at A/B/C, it is the student quality that would play a role in making a decision. Because A is the first choice for CAT crackers, it has the best student quality. I do not want to hurt any sentiments here but going by the same logic, B should have a slightly better student quality than C. And therefore I am inclined towards joining B.
However, it is known that B favours students with work-ex. And I myself have met people this year with work-ex and lone B calls and converting it. So perhaps, and I repeat perhaps, the atmosphere at B isn't academically so intense (I say so because I guess it is those stud IITian freshers that add a lot to the academic rigour. Alas, most of the make it to A). I am looking for an academically rigourous atmosphere. I don't mind spending 20 hrs working.
Kindly help me with frank inputs.
FYI, my profile:

Thanks in advance.
