Hi All,

My name is Ranjit and I am currently doing my MBA from Great Lakes Institute of Managment. This is still the pre-season and I know that people are busy with entrance exams preparation. If you want to know anything about Great Lakes and if you are targetting admissions later this year, shoot your queries and I will be happy to answer them..... .

Hey Ranjeet...Its a great initiative that u have taken on your part to help prospective candidates..I know ,out of my own experience last year ,how difficult it is to get first hand reliable information about the colleges despite the huge amount of information available on the web.And there can be no better source of information about a college than its current students. So , I will be joining u in dispersing all the information that there is to be known about our college and helping people take informed decisions.
Cheers

Hi Allurin.ecstacy,

Well....if you have a genuine reason for completing your BE in 5 years instead of 4, you have a good chance to make it.
You should target a GMAT score of 680 but dont worry if you fall short of it by some 10 or 30 points because, at Great Lakes,we look at the complete profile and decide.
For CAT, you should be aiming for 95 percentile but then again i repeat that you dont have to worry if you fall short of it by 3 to 4 percentile.

Your chances are dependent on what you bring to Great Lakes. If you have won awards or certificates in academics or extra curriculars, mention that in the application form. At the end of the day, it is the relative performance that matters amongst the people who have applied.

You can apply anytime between October and mid Jan. Forms come out in October usually.

We plan to take around 260 ppl next year since we will be moving to the new campus which can accomodate as many people. So, all the best!!

I believe the program offered by great lake is of 1 year only
If i am right then is it adviceable foe a person who wants to change his field to go for this program ; considering the fact that it is only 1 year . I believe two year program is better suited for a fresher or for a person who wants to change his stream....vat do u think

Hi jain.er,

Well, we offer a 1 year MBA which can serve two purposes:

1) Competitive pay packages and career jumps commensurate with work experience for people who seek career growth in the same field they were working in, prior to joining Great Lakes.
2) MBA at Great Lakes also enables people to switch fields early on in their careers and make the transition to other fields just like other top b schools. To give you an idea, last year, 90 out of a batch of 164 switched fields and opted for the desired job profile.

So, there is ample opportunity for people to switch fields or continue in their existing fields. Everything depends on what you make of your MBA at Great Lakes.

However, I agree that freshers might prefer 2 year MBA programs for obvious reasons. The proportion of freshers in a 1 year program is very less. In fact, almost everybody in our batch has work experience no matter how small. The average work experience of the current batch is 42 months.

Keep the discussion going....

Hi ranjit

thanks for this useful post.
I wanted to know whether great lakes will accept CAT 2007 scores for admission in 2009-10 batch.

If yes, can i expect a call with this profile:

CAT 2007: 90.85%tile
B.Tech CS 79%
12th 80.4%
10th 89.2%

Since i am a fresher with no workex wat qualities can be an added advantage?

Hi Tanuj,

Yes, we accept CAT 2007 as well as CAT 2008 scores for admission to the 2009-10 batch.

We usually prefer candidates with work experience. We also take freshers who have a very good academic record. I would suggest that you get some work experience if you happen to be passing out of B Tech this year. This will help boost your profile and chances of getting shortlisted by the time you apply. In any case, do apply to us because we look at the candidate's entire profile and decide.

Extra curriculars are definitely a bonus. Any achievements at the state level, national level, college level in sports or any other achievement be it academic etc will boost your chances.

Let me know if you have any other queries.

Hi All,

I have started a poll on this thread. It is related to your perception of how Great Lakes figures in the rankings. Do cast your vote and help build up opinion on the same. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us. Thanks in advance. The participants of this poll would be kept anonymous. So, vote freely...
