i c no body stepping up and taking responsibility for digging up and posting RC passage sources...
i wil go ahead with the sources for the passages in SIM 4.

Passage 1 - naturalacts: The Color of Plants on Other Worlds

Passage 2 - Stages of Thought (start reading from the 9th paragraph from top)

Passage 3 - SikhSpectrum.com Monthly. The Wonder of Barbie: Popular Culture and the Making of Female Identity </font>

Re: The pg Kolkata Dream Team - 30-07-2008, 01:27 PM

ANNOUNCEMENT

PGPL rules have been tweaked a bit.
We can now have 7 substitutions for the entire season instead of 3.

Right now we have 4 vacancies on the bench.
It may be 5,6,7 if the subs don show interest in the team activities or regularly take part in discussions on the thread, meets, conferences.

Its at the sole discretion of the Captain of the Team.

I hate to be personal...but among the subs
till now i don c too much activity on the part of sz-amar...other two are doing just fine.

Here's inviting NOMINATIONS for the position of substitutes for Kolkata CAT Busters.

Lemme make one thing clear here.

Substitutes get a chance to become part of the final XV only when a member in the top XV underperforms and voluntarily wants to leave the team or for some other reason he does'n wanna be part of the proceedings in future. But once he leaves the team he won't be placed on the bench...He wil permanently leave the team and won't be assosciated in any of its activities.
Exceptions may be made in cases when the Captain feels someone from the top XV needs to be substituted. He will then be served a notice period within which he has to defend his case.
One of the substitutes(based on Mock scores till dat point of time) would be drafted in and 1 position on the bench will become vacant.

So Puys whoeva wanted to be part of this Dream team but missed d chance earlier and couldn't be included....
go ahead and nominate urself...no deadlines as of now....

U'll be intimated of our choice of the 4 substitutes from among all nominations received in due time...

We hope 2 involve 4 more puys in this wonderful initiative.

P.S : While placing nominations adhere to the format followed in this thread. Please look back as to how others have placed their nominations.

Again some awesome QA lessons thanx to Chennai DT,nishant_rungta and maxximus.

http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/cat-an...ml#post1191261 (PG Premier League - Chennai Dream Team)

also check out the 2 posts following the one above...

P.S : guess we can take a leaf out f der book...i would ask all puys to jus c d way doz ppl are going bt sharing and discussing resources.

P.P.S : i had to drop the initiative of sharing questions on topics frm QA,VA,DI cuz it was nly a couple f us posting ques...and few answering dem...the enthu level was dipping..

Now also i don find too many ppl coming forward with their doubts from the Mock papers/materials shared.

Jus look up the team e-mail id and u have the 3rd proof of how much puys are really participating actively...

hope to c better response in the days ahead...this is jus a friendly reminder to u all dat ur in a team and should aptly discharge of ur duties and responsibilities towards the team and its growth.

With 3 -3.5 months left to CAT you cannot afford to have a very VA-centric approach.

But here are some quick strategies for a 2 month period which could help you raise your VA percentiles and your confidence as well as boost your GDPI prep

Buy last ten year's CAT papers.
Solve the VA section of each year.

Get hold of the Mocks of at least one more insti. Make sure that you are solving at least two VA mocks per week.

(a)While doing the above you will come across words you have not heard.
Though these words are unlikely to be repeated there is a high probability that similar words or synonyms for these words will be used by the CAT
Punch these words into Dictionary.com.
It will throw up up words with similar meanings.
Glance through those words.
If you are even more dedicated you can note some of them down to revise just before the CAT

(b) While doing the RC's you will get a hang of the topics being given. For every RC select a significant sentence . Go to Google Scholar . Punch that sentence in! It will throw up some very erudite articles on that topic. Read them. It will give you a headache!!
But you will get a hang of the level of RC's of the CAT

(c) On one of the threads -CAT - THE SOURCE. I have posted the sources of recent VA questions. go through those websites. Guardian, BBC..etc..

(d) Religiously follow the following magazines
(1) Businessworld (weekly)
(2) India Today (fortnightly)
(3) Competition Success Review (monthly)
(4) Reader's Digest (monthly)

Apart from this scan a newspaper daily.

(e)Buy Arun Sharma's .. book for CAT -VA. It helps to some extent since it gives you a bunch of question on the same topic in one place

(f) Keep a dictionary on your study table. Scan it once in a while especially for words that have big entries. You need to know these words having multiple meanings. they may help in the Vocab questions

(g) Refer to a Grammar book. When you are doing Sentence correction exercises -try to identify the grammar area the sentence correction hits e.g. Agreement of verb with subject. Then go to the grammar book and look up the topic and study it more extensively

I know the above is a tough task .....but believe me if you can even do 40-50% of the above esp. the Mocks and past year's CAT papers.. you will see your VA percentiles go up!!!

Trust me!!
From a post by tanveer, especially helpful for ppl worried abt ther verbal scores...

Re: The pg Kolkata Dream Team - 30-07-2008, 06:25 PM

hi sinchan....am i allowed to nominate myself once more ....if i am allowed count this post towards that

apart from what i had said earlier, i would like to state that slowly i am seeing a gradual increase in percentile so let me hope i am improving....my results for last couple of weeks' mocks :

AIMCAT
914 - 88.47
915 - 87.27
916 - 88.74

CL Mocks
Mock 3 - 96.41
Mock 2 - 95.60
Mock 1 was very poor as i had written it after a 4 and a half hr class and couldnt concentrate a bit

i guess the numbers are indicative enuf....although i find my scores in aimcat seem to be stagnated, i vow to put in much more effort to outdo them....since i have started preps may b a month back i guess there is scope to improve and my CL percentiles do give me some motivation ....rest is upto u whether you will select me or not
