This was posted somewhere on pg 75...

I enjoyed this question and thgt it wuld b nice to share with u guys..

1) Consider a polynomial p(x) = a0x^n + a1x^(n-1) + ... + a(n-1)x + an; where a0, a1 ,..., an are real. if p(x) has k real roots, then the geometric mean of the roots of the polynomial p(x) always exist when

a) an and a0 have the same sign
b) an and a0 have opposite signs
c) K is odd
d) n is even

...

d) n is even

...
to minimise my calculatns...i hav taken k=n...
stmnt a:
suppose this is the eq: (x-1)*(x+2)*(x-2)=0
roots: 1, -2, 2
GM: sqrt(-4)...not poss.

stmnt b:
eq: (x-1)*(x+2)=0
roots: 1, -2
GM: sqrt(-2)...not poss

stmnt c:
this we have already seen as a sub case of stmnt a, where in we hav odd no. of real roots

stmnt d:
this we have already seen as a sub case of stmnt b where in we hav even no. of roots

so, we see that none of the statemnts are foolproof.

hey, but dat isn't mentiond nywher in the ques...
nwz if dat is the case...it means der r atleast two complex roots the eq. will hav....and dat ll involve a diff approach altoether...dis trial n error method won't work efficiently

Re: [PG Premier League] Mumbai Dream Team - 07-09-2008, 09:25 PM

20 questions...lolzzz..i laughed it out wen i saw the paper....knew wont be solving much as the paper sud be tough...alas...it turned outta be an easier one....wid some stupid word arrangement thing..lolzzzz....i think so,mething similar tot his will be the format of cat this tym...with very little alternatives.....but m sure they will give me atleast 50% as RC..my stronghold...here two passages with only a total of questions..lolzzzz....seemed more like a bank exam rather than a cat paper...i expected a better level of questions from them this time...as cat is knocking on my door...

a pathetic mock...

EURC- attempted 12....correct 5....incorrect 7....expected score....18...cut off....27

LRDI- attempted 8....correct 7....incorrect 1....expected score 34...cut off 40...

QA- attempted 10...correct 7...incorrect 3...expected score 32...cut off 32

overall score(expected) - 84

cut off-- 105...god knows how they decide cut off before taking every score in consideration....

expecting smwer around 85-90 %ile...very pathetic....

Hello Puys!!

First of all my apologies for this long period of absence. THough I am sure chop and Profoo would have ensured all your queries were handled, I know I should have been available.

After a whirlwind tour through Calcutta and Kerala I am finally back to Mumbai and would have internet access regularly.

So please update me on the status, our standings, progresss.

DOnt forget that you can now spam my inbox for queries. If I feel any question is relevant to a larger audience I will repost them here with the permission of the original person.

I apologise once again for this absence. Any of you are most welcome to also ping me for my gtalk id or cell number in case of doubts which are too long to type or too critical to wait for a response.

How about a meet to bring things back on track, charge up the atmosphere and set the ball rolling for the next 60 days or so.....
