Hey if there are so many ambiguities as per you, then I am guessing some of these doubts are in the RCs. If that is the case, google for the original source of the passages. Find out the article from where the RC has been taken.
And, read the original article not as a critic, but as a first std student listening to his parents. This will help you to understand EXACTLY what the author was trying to convey. Then you will know where you went wrong. The aim is to look at things from the author's point of view.

As for the VA part of VA/RC, if you still have doubts, speak to some ppl who have understood the same and debate with them.. That's the only way I see fit.

AIMCAT 15 scorecard.

VA - 87.08
DI - 77.67
QA - 46.92

Overall - 76.67

Went with some preconceived notions about DI and started with the wrong sets. Ended up screwing it up and losing my cool which "paved the way" for me to screw Quants as well

VA - My only intention was to concentrate on the RCs in the first 25 mins and attempt all the other questions within the next 20 mins...
It somewhat worked. But got one full RC wrong (The one on The other side of Science )

Lesson well learnt and its a good eye opener for me interms of the mindset that I need to have during a mock/on the D day..

Anyway July 20th is aint 16th Nov and there are still 14 more mocks to go

Re: PG Premier League - Chennai Dream Team - 24-07-2008, 03:15 PM

gave CL mock 2 yesterday. Pathetic performance in such an easy paper. guess thats what happens when u jus keep giving the mocks with absolutely no prep.

LRDI-71.4 %ile
EU+RC-95.2%ile
QA-74.6%ile
TOTAL90.07
i understood what Rojer that meant by CRIME mistakes. Made loads of them in QA. else would ve surely ccleared the cut off. again reminded of my C07 where i had yet another worst day in quant. compounded by the fact that it was easy.
Followed QA DI VA strategy and ended up with a below par performance in VA. will try this strategy again at Aimcat 914, to check if the strategy really suits me. i need more balance.
In VA, i got all four wrong in identifying the grammatical errors. I identified al the ones with the grammatical errors when i was supposed to identify the correct sentences. should ve got atleast two correct theere. So puys next time be double careful when u attempt such questions.

My 915 result, says i didnt shade the ovals properly. Reminding me of XAT08, when it said that i hadnt given the test itself.

i wont make it to the meet this sunday, sorry rmbt and others. Anyways will meet as many as possible on Sat during the Gyan session. Kinda dejected to the core with such f***ing. Just hoping those guys shed light. i seriously dunno where i'm lacking and what shud be done.

AIMCAT 15 scorecard.

VA - 94.36
DI - 64.18
QA - 79.44

Overall - 88.67

VA- the strategy to attempt maximum number of questions has been working ..... Hope this continues till the very end

Quants-Was clearing quants till this mock but i screwed it up big time this time around..... failed to notice many doable questions which ultimately led to my downfall......

DI-Got stuck in the marks wala set ...... With DI i get tensed and this reduces my efficiency ...hope to rectify this pretty soon....I guess with DI the key is to remain calm and composed ......

Great work captain..
I think we can upload this in our google docs.. Not sure if google docs allow charts to be displayed..

The graphs show the direction that we are moving.. Hope all of us reach the zenith on Nov 16

Cheers

Hi,
I am hoping this thread is a one-stop shop for asking CAt related stuff to Career Avenues faculty. I get a lot of pm from students, and while some of them are fairly personal and need individual input, most are very generic, and I believe that other students may also have the same doubts/queries, and our response can help other people too.

Of course you are also free to ask anything about Career Avenues and its courses too, career advice and MBA information assistance. At the same time, my request is that you do not ask questions like how to fill up a form, opinions on particular colleges, etc.

Would love to see a lot of action on this thread, and have roped in some faculty of CAV to also contribute.

Hi Amit,

With just few days before CAT, I don't think I will be able to finish the word list. Instead of spending time mugging up new words, I have decided to spend that time improving my weak areas. Also I have a fair knowledge of vocabulary.

So could you please tell me if it is possible to crack CAT without the word lists?

Thanks & Regards,
Sourav
It is absolutely possible to crack CAT without knwing the entire word list. Infact I am sure even I may not know all the words.

My suggestion. Just give 10-15 minutes o vocab in a day. However, how u use those 15 minutes is important.
1. Flip to a page on the word list. Typically there are 30-40 words on a page. Now hide all the meanings, and just look at the words. I am sure that you will be able to categorise the words into three types. Approx 30% - u already know, about 30-40% you think u know but u are not confident, and the remaining words are absolutely new.
2. First check if what u knew were right. Then check the meanings of the words in the second category. Get to know their meaning and try using them mentally in a short sentence. Now make a list of these words. These 10 words are what you learn for the day.
3. Have a cursory glance at the remaining words. If you really like some word, note down its meaning.
4. Do this all 5 weekdays.
5. Come back to these pages over the weekend, and check if you still remember the 10 moderate level words that you were earlier half sure of.
6. Do this(point 5) for another two weeks, and you can say bye-bye to that page for ever.

CAT asks more questions on usage of words, so I believe reading is more important that mugging words.

But I have always been asked this question "What should I read"?
While my normal response will be to give you a list of books, magazines, etc. here is a more practical, exam focused answer.

Just read RCs of any course material that you may not be solving in totality. For eg. u are a student of ABC Institute and have access to material of XYZ Insit too.

Then from the material of XYZ just read the RC passages. No time limits. Just enjoy the reading, mark words that are unfamiliar, and answer a couple of questions to check if you have understood the passage right (note that I said few questions of the passage and not all qns.).

This not only improves vocabulary, but will also aid your RCs phenomenally. Remember to enjoy your reading. THis can yield positive results fairly quick, and can be done in the given time frame. Remember to spend 30 minutes on doing this if you are above average, and an hour if your scores are not so good in RCs.

Cheers
Amit
Kudos to Amit Sabu..
