from b) x/y = 40/1 = 40 : 1

but from a)

x is definitely 2 .. y can take any value from 11 - 99 as there is no specific limit..limit in the sense largest two digit number between 10 -12 is 12 where as largest two digit number between 10 - 99 is 99..

so the value of y change with limits...

so a) is not valid statement to find x:y

so b) only b can be the answer for it..
OMG ..Din't quite get this. When we say the largest two digit number, dont we mean just one thing?

Okhay

Mock results out. Gave IMS SIMcat last Sunday and CL mock cat 6 this morning Missed Verbal cut offs by a whisker in both and OA percentiles remain quite the same in both the tests.

Here's my simcat-08 scores:

VA - 85.34%ile - 15 Missed the cut off by 2 marks
QA - 96.11%ile - 17.5
DI - 91.84%ile - 15.75

OA - 97.12%ile - 47.25

CL Mock scores:

Would only quote the overall percentile for now as most of you are yet to take this test

97.8x%ile

Nishant

PS: MK... Definitely.. Agree with you. Chennai scene is mighty improving but for a few stalwarts who have just mellowed down a bit. I'm sure they wud come back hard. Waiting for that time guys

0908

VA- 98.89 (5 marks disappear, I mark 3 on the paper and 2 on the OMR )

QA -

DI-

OA- 80.08

Verbal Cutoff = 29 and at 50 you get 98.89 .. was the cut off at 80 percentile?

Waiting for CL mock this saturday now, as there is no AIMCAT this week.

Cheers..

PS- = cutoff not cleared

Thumbs up Re: PG Premier League - Chennai Dream Team - 11-09-2008, 09:18 AM

Chennuys,
This time I m not posting any articles/tips/techniques/gyaan for CAT.

Overall, Just like the no of pages of this thread, your Mock scores have been steadily increasing over the weeks. Good to see that most of you are consistent and steadily increasing your pace for the preparation.

In case any of you feel that Mock scores are still not upto the mark or the zeal for MBA has gone down, go and watch ROCK ON!

No, no, no- this not an attempt of SURROGATE ADVERTISING, but most of you will get inspired after seeing Farhan Akhtar's House, car, office, bank balance and wife.

He plays a role of Investment Banker in the movie. Well, if I would have been in Chennai, I would have taken whole team (including Argho) to the movie. ANyways, keep up the good show

It can be solved using a alone.

As for the second statement, x = 40y. since it's not mentioned that x and y are integers, x and y can take zero as well. In that case, x:y cannot be found. It's 40:1 otherwise.
Statement b alone is not sufficient.

ans: only a
Can u please explain the process to me ....
in any case whether the x is an integer or not the answer should be it can be determined from this ......

please elaborate

See, basically the statement says: x=40y.

But then the question statement doesn't specify if they are positive integers, or rather integers for that matter.

This way, I have the scope to assume the value of x to be 0 and hence the statement x=40y throws up 2 possibilities where the ratio of x:y is 1:1 or 40:1. Hence, this cannot be uniquely determined.

Nishant
Nishant, perfect explanation, except for a small mistake. If both x and y are 0, x:y is not 1:1. You can't divide a number by 0.

My theory is that if you look confident you can pull off anything - even if you have no clue what you're doing.

Hum doosre type ke gyaani hai , nothing related to CAT u know

Still if someone is interested in taking gyaan for CAT from me, surely i would be like , but would try to give in as much gyaan as i have to that person (though chances of happening are zilch )

Regarding CL mock 6

Quants - I was going through the quant section and then i realised the importance of giving 50 minutes to each section, the thing i wasnt able to do in this mock as i grappled with DI for over 70 minutes, and giving quants only 20-25 minutes (there were atleast 5 questions that i could have easily got right, that i wwasnt even able to attempt )

Verbal - this is the 1st time i clear CL cut off in VA section , i attempted the SC's ang for my surprise got 2/3 , Though the vocab questions turned out to be blunder getting both of them wrong (some silly mistekes here), but all in all it brought the hearsh reality to me again that my vocab really is pathetic to say the least. With only only 4 questions on RC, i was easily able to skip them (as i normally do in all mocks )

DI - More LR questions, or should i say only LR questions, all sets were doable. Though i wasted 10-15 minutes on sets which i finally dint attempt, again a lesson to be learnt, that you should decide in the 1st 2-5 minutes whether you need to continue with a set or not. Again a very important learning this time was that whaterver you are scribling on the paper should be atleast in such a state that you can read it yourself. I scribbled so much in one set, that too in such horrible writing that i had to rework the whole set (that too Twice ),but then it became a ego issue for me and i had to get this one done, so i did and invested 10-15 minutes but in the last got all 4 questions correct. So taking questions on to your ego might be a bad idea (i can say that it was in some way frutiful for me, but i wount like do repeat this again)

I have written toooo much about this mock, is this really me

Cheers

MK
