Thanx in advance |
hi
patriot123
few suggestions for improving performance in RCs
(1) Before attempting a RC head on, read first few lines of some/each
paragraph of that RC, try to figure out what it is about, how much
comfortable you are with the subject/content of it, length and marks
allotted to RC. Depending upon all these factors, mark RC as D(Doable),
M (Moderately tough) or V(very tough).Doing this for all 4-5 RCs may
take 5-6 minutes in total, but after grading RCs you know the sequence to attempt. This strategy has many advantages e.g. when you start with
the easiest RC, your speed will be fast ,accuracy will be high and confidence
level will also increase.
(2) The RCs coming these days in CAT/XAT/OMETs are very tough.
tough means they come from not so common topics like psychology.
also they are very difficult to comprehend because of the tone, flow
of thought etc.So to increase your familiarity with these type of abstruse/dense/difficult topics read these kind of material as much as possible. For some links which will help you to get familiarize with these kind of topics, go to
http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/englis...at-2008-a.html (RC Digest for CAT 2008).
More you get familiar with these kind of topics/articles, more will be the chance of that RC (in mock/actual CAT) to be a “Doable” or “Moderately tough” instead of “very tough” for you.
(3) While reading a RC , read carefully, try to comprehend what author wants to say,
purpose of each paragraph, the arguments, conclusions etc by the author. You can mark names, time or any thing you find interesting while reading.
(4) while solving the questions, read each option carefully, mark them(options) as “may be the answer” or “definitely not the answer”. You may go back go the part of RC from were the question is asked. Then at last among the “may be the answer” choose the best possible answer according to the RC.
(5) all the above strategy will fail for a person who does not read regularly. regularly means reading at least one hour per day. you can read anything you like from sports to business.
You can modify the above strategy according to your strength and weakness.Intially your speed may get reduced because of this marking etc, but once you become adept at this you accuracy will improve and with more practice your speed will also improve a lot.
The above strategy has worked for me, that’s why I shared it with you. although my overall percentile was never very promising in Mocks but my VA percentile was always above 95. my CAT VA percentile was 98 last year. (do not ask overall percentile, he.. he.. he..).
in return of all these bhasan/gyan i want some tips for improving QA.I guess my basics are O.K. in QA but still i am not able to score good marks. can you people suggest some good book for type of QA coming in CAT.THANKS IN ADVANCE.
