Well doesn't look like it from what everyone's saying. I got a measly 27 in Quant compared to 41 in DI and 32 in VA. Good to know that someone's on the same boat.

Hi all!
The first mock CAT of the season has been a COMPLETE disaster for me. I scored a measly 70 and it appears that it is one of the lowest scores posted on this thread. I got stuck up in many of the DI questions. For eg - the rank in the subjects and the cut, copy, paste operation one etc to name a few. I also made silly mistakes in two Quant questions.
Lastly, in the VA section, which I regard as my strongest one, I have improved my RC but I manage to get the grammatical ones wrong because I find an extra mistake in one or the other sentence. In short, none of the sections went well for me. Hope to turn it around the next time!

for all the people who are taking test-series...here are a few pointers indicating how to go about them and utilise the test series to the fullest: 1.in the initial phase probably first 5 tests, target a very high accuracy.scores are useless if ur accuracy is not good.be prepared for the worst case is the idea behind this strategy.if u get most of ur answers right, then u hv more chances of tackling the togher questions on the d-day.y i say so is because u can nvr make out if english section is easy or tough w/o solving a good amount of it.by that time u mst hv spent around 15mins and panick may start creeping in.after ur acccuracy becomes good..say after 6tests...then start targetting good scores. again in qa/di accuracy shud b high, but the way iim's hv been setting va/rc sections, it'll b better to solve more questions at an accuracy of around 70%.but this shud come only after u hv did well on ur accuracy in the initial phase, coz it wud help u warm up for the approach that is required and give u a feel of the way u need to pic answers.
2.start solving the paper on your own. tests do hv a gap of 1 week b/w them.so solve each n every question yourself.take 2-3 days but complete is yourself.in the mean time also try finding out where u went wrong while you were taking the test.
3.after this is done, look at the solutions provided by the instt.find out if ther was any other method(probably a better one than the on u used) for solving the question.
it would b good if u memorise these things...
4.then revise the paper once more.allot one day for it.
that way u can make the most out of test series
the idea behind giving 2-3 dyas to solving the test urself is that when u solve a question yourself, the idea logic and method behind it remains in your mind.it'll help u a ot on the final day.
and if u strike gold by having 3-4 questions based on the logic u already hv used earlier just imagine what difference it would create to your score
also for va/rc go thru cat ppr from 99 to 08.find out where and how iim's set traps.how they bring options very close to each other.it'll help.
i'd stress again tht at this stage scores r not imp.judge ur prep by accuracy right now.after mid-september u shud be looking for scores.the graph of ur percentile shud go up and that should also be ur target | | | | | The Following 13 Users Say Thank You to arpitzwurld For This Useful Post: | anurag12singh (19-05-2008), as_ananth (19-05-2008), freakinbubu (19-05-2008), Infoknight (20-05-2008), knightofwar (19-05-2008), nishant_rungta (19-05-2008), panzer_08 (19-05-2008), parul.s (19-05-2008), rik_12 (19-05-2008), shreyas.nair (19-05-2008), sumitrocks (19-05-2008), SUPER XERO (19-05-2008), vivekvarendra (19-05-2008)

Ah,
Why am i so addicted to CAT, and more imp. AIMCATS? So much so that by next saturday, in all probability my NMIMS seat would get confirmed.. and here i was , present in ma fourth straight aimcat season. aimcat920, just like a movie star's fan would be present first day first show, no matter how pathetic is the movie.
Ma scores:
q 35
di 21
va23
TOTAL: 79...
Not at all gud by my standards.. was a consistent 97 to 98 ish percentileer in last TIME AIMCAT season..
My strength verbal ditched me.. 22 attempts and net score 23..
But now that i'm a veteran at CAT/AIMCATS, i can surely say, PUHLEEZ, do not bother much bout the AIMCAT scores. Rather use them as a tool for self improvement.. Just enjoy the stupid process or cat prep.. NMIMS MBA CORE
(Batch of 2008-10)
Results (Won't matter much now) GMAT: 710, QA :50, VA: 35 FMS: 98.5 percentile.

As someone mentioned, writing the AIMCAT seems like an addiction. Its my fourth season now, But I still seem to be a sucker for punishment !!!! My scores ----------------------- Q : 28 ( 8c , 4 w) DI : 18 ..Thought this section was tough... EU : 50 ( 15C , 10W) ---------------------------------- 96 ---------------------------------
Anyway my two cents..
PLEASE ANALYZE the mocks.
Work on your weak areas.
Otherwise you will end up being strong in one section only. In most (!) cases CAT scores
reflect that. | | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to santiago For This Useful Post:

TIME gives the following cutoffs: EU(22), QA-28, DI(26)...how much individual percentiles does these cutoffs refer to? I guess these are based on 80 percentile in actual CAT which is lowest percentile required to get call from IIM-B.....If so, then how much do u think they will correspond to 90 percentile in each section?........or if somebody knows more about the history of the cutoffs - can they shed some ligh on this? Thanks in advance. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
